
No. 6 Seed Wake Forest Poised for Showdown With No. 2 Seed Duke

The Demon Deacons will face the Blue Devils at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Courts on the campus of the University of North Carolina due to expected inclement weather.
CARY, N.C. – After knocking off No. 3 seed NC State Friday evening, the sixth-seeded and 20th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will return to action Saturday to face second-seeded and 12th-ranked Duke at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Courts in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Saturday's semifinal matchup between the Demon Deacons and the Blue Devils is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Wake Forest enters Saturday's match with a 25-10 overall record, including a 7-5 mark in ACC play. Of note, with Friday's win over No. 23 NC State, the Deacs advanced to the semifinals for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
This season, the Deacs are led by senior Melios Efstathiou as the Limassol, Cyprus is currently ranked the fifth-best singles player nationally by the ITA. Efstathiou is currently on a four-match win streak.

For the third-consecutive match, Wake Forest clinched the doubles point Friday as the Deacs used consecutive tiebreak victories from No. 70 Jurabek Karimov/Luciano Tacchi and Filippo Moroni/Matthew Thomson to take a 1-0 lead into singles action.
The Demon Deacons got off to an excellent start in singles, taking a 3-0 lead behind victories in the first and fourth slots. NC State reeled off consecutive wins in fifth and sixth singles, but the Demon Deacons clinched the match victory as Moroni stormed back to knock off No. 73 Luca Staeheli (2-6, 6-2, 6-4)..

Duke currently owns a 19-5 ledger, including an 11-1 mark in conference play. The Blue Devils own 13 wins against ranked opponents this season and their lone conference loss came against top-seeded Virginia.

On March 31, Wake Forest dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Duke at the Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils got off to a strong start in duo action, before going on to secure the pivotal doubles point with wins in second and third doubles. Wake Forest put up a resilient effort in singles, earning victories in the first, third and sixth slots but was unable to overcome losses in second, fourth and fifth singles.
Of note, senior Melios Efstathiou notched a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory over then-No. 17 Garrett Johns, while senior Matthew Thomson earned an impressive 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win in third singles over Andrew Zhang.

The winner of Saturday's match will move on to face the winner of No. 1 Virginia vs. No. 5 Florida State on Sunday.
