Wake Hockey Announces New Roster Additions for 2023

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest field hockey and head coach Jen Averill have announced 11 new additions to the squad for the 2023 season.
"Jackie, Pietie and the entire hockey squad and I are more than excited to welcome the class of 2027 and our graduate student Jodi Brine. These talented women are full of character, talent and personality. Their tenacious spirit coupled with their speed, agility and technical skills add huge value to every line. We look forward to the positive impact that they can have on Wake Hockey and the University community."
The incoming group includes one graduate transfer, Jodie Brine from Brown, and 10 freshmen from seven different states and two countries.
Brine and freshmen Saskia Lawrence and Florence Tuthill are coming to Winston-Salem from England and Faye Jance will join the Deacs from the Netherlands. Newcomers from the states are coming from Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Kentucky, Missouri and Texas.

Jodie Brine | Goalkeeper | Graduate Student | Brown University | Surrey, England
- Started all 17 games for the Bears in goal as a senior
- Finished the season with a 1.81 goals against average and .690 save percentage along with an 8-9 record
- Recorded three straight shutout wins over Sacred Heart (Sept. 25), Dartmouth (Oct. 1), and Wagner (Oct. 2)
- Totaled 69 saves
- Started 15 of Brown's 17 games in her junior season
- Logged a 1.93 goals against average and .723 save percentage
- Ranked fourth in the Ivy League in GAA and fifth in the conference in save percentage
- Finished third in the conference with 4.87 saves per game
- Posted shutouts in Brown's wins over St. Francis (Sept. 3) and Columbia (Oct. 9)
- Recorded a career-high 11 saves at 11th-ranked Harvard (Nov. 6)
- Helped the Brown defense rank second in the conference with 1.71 goals against per game

Georgia Leary | Midfield | Freshman | St. Louis, Missouri
- Leary helped lead the Saints to their third consecutive Midwest Tournament championship and 14th overall in 2022.
- Two of her 21 goals were game winners, began her senior season with a season-high five goals.
- Scored 21 goals, tallied 22 assists and recorded 64 points her senior season at Villa Duchesne.
- She assisted on both goals in a 2-1 double-overtime win over St. Joseph's in the semifinals.
- Leary fed a teammate for a goal that tied the game 1-1 in the second quarter, setting the stage for overtime.
- With 6:48 left in the second overtime period, Leary beat three defenders in the midfield area, dribbled up field and sent a pass to a teammate who finished for the game-winner.
- Leary had the fourth Saints' goal in a 4-0 win over John Burroughs in the title game.
- She was first-team All-Metro in 2021.

- In 2022, Faye was the starting forward for the first women's team of HDM (Dames 1) that competed at the highest Dutch national women's level (Hoofdklasse).
- Can be described as a very technical goal-scoring striker who has good timing, good running lines, and is physically and mentally strong.
- Puts a lot of energy into her play and often recovers the ball while pressing.
- Intuitive player with a really good eye for the target and she dares to take a risk.
