
Wake Forest Returns to Fall Competition at 2024 ITA Carolina Regional

The five-day event is scheduled to begin with qualifying rounds on Thursday in Chapel Hill, NC.
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Wake Forest women's team will return to fall competition this upcoming Thursday (Oct. 17), as nine Demon Deacons are set to open play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Regional at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, NC.
The tournament is hosted by North Carolina and will run from Thursday (Oct. 17) to the following Monday (Oct. 21). The two finalists of the singles bracket and the winner of the doubles bracket will qualify for the NCAA Fall Individual Championships from Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
Jingyi Li will start the tournament for the Demon Deacons in the opening qualifying round for singles at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Graduate student Mikayla Mills (11 a.m.), as well as freshmen Brianna Baldi (10:30 a.m.) and Kady Tannenbaum (11:30 a.m.) will also begin play in the qualifying bracket on Thursday.
Graduate student Anna Zhang (No. 123), juniors Whitley Pate and Nevena Carton, redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch and sophomore Sankavi Gownder will begin play in the main draw on Friday.
Gownder and Baldi will open doubles play at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Carton/Tannenbaum (6 p.m.) and Mills/Blanch (6:30 p.m.). No. 80 Zhang/Pate received an opening round bye and will be starting competition in the Round of 32.

Graduate student Anna Zhang had an impressive debut for the Demon Deacons, as she competed at the ITA All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park three weeks ago.
Zhang won her opening match of the qualifying rounds against LSU's Kenna Erickson, picking up a straight-set win (6-1, 6-3).
Zhang's tournament run would end in her next match, as she fell to UCLA's Kate Fakih in a three-set outing (6-2, 4-6, 1-6).
2023 ITA Carolina Regional
In this same event last year, both Whitley Pate and Sankavi Gownder advanced to the Round of 16 in singles action in their respective draws. Gownder and senior Mia Ahmad also advanced to the championship in their doubles bracket, losing in the finals to UNC's Tran/Forbes.

The Demon Deacons will be back in action on November 7th as they begin play at the ITA Sectional Championships. The event will be hosted by North Carolina at the Chewning Tennis Center from Nov. 7-10.
