The match will serve as Wake Forest’s annual Genna Wiley Memorial Match as the Demon Deacons will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Competing in the program's annual Genna Wiley Memorial Match in honor of the wife of former team athletic trainer Steve Wiley, who passed away after a long battle with breast cancer three days after the Demon Deacons won the 2007 NCAA National Championship, Wake Forest men's soccer will host Virginia Tech on Saturday evening at Spry Stadium.

Looking to solidify a spot near the top of the ACC standings, the Demon Deacons will face a Virginia Tech squad that has spent time throughout the 2024 campaign ranked in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

The Deacs will be wearing pink jerseys for the match, with all proceeds raised benefiting the Cancer Health Equity Patient Care fund at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Bidding is open now through the end of the day Saturday

Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will air nationally on the ACC Network.

The Matchup
  • Wake Forest and Virginia Tech will meet in a massive ACC contest on Saturday evening, as the Demon Deacons continue a push near the top of the standings.
  • The Demon Deacons are 6-3-5 overall on the year and 2-1-2 in ACC play, as Wake Forest defeated Syracuse and Boston College before logging a 0-0 draw at current No. 11 Duke last weekend.
  • Virginia Tech, meanwhile, logged a 2-1 victory over Syracuse in the Hokies' ACC opener before drawing 0-0 with NC State last weekend.
  • Each team is coming off its season-high in scoring, as Wake Forest notched a 4-1 victory over UNCW while Virginia Tech collected a 6-0 victory against Winthrop on Tuesday evening.
  • The four goals for the Demon Deacons were most since a 5-1 victory over Robert Morris on Oct. 17, 2023, while the Hokies' six goals were most since a 5-2 result against Notre Dame on Oct. 19, 2018.
Last Time Out
  • Wake Forest earned its sixth victory of the season with a 4-1 decision over UNCW in the Deacs' final non-conference contest of the regular season.
  • Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime from a 10th-minute goal by the Seahawks, Wake Forest took control of the match in the second half, scoring in the 47th, 63rd, 65th and 79th minutes.
  • Less than two minutes into the second half, junior Basit Umar scored his second goal of the year before freshmen Daniel Krueger and Dylan Borso scoring in the 63rd and 65th minutes respectively.
  • Then in the 79th minute, senior Nicolas Mancilla registered the first goal of his Demon Deacon career.
  • In total, 22 Demon Deacons contributed to the victory.
The Spry Advantage
  • Since head coach Bobby Muuss' arrival in 2015 along with the coaching staff of associate head coaches Dane Brenner and Steve Armas along with assistant coach Ade Taiwo, Wake Forest ranks No. 1 nationally in home wins (106), 17 more than any other program nationally during that span and 18 more than any ACC program.
  • Over the last 10 seasons, the Deacs have won at least eight of their matches at Spry Stadium including a double-digit win total seven of those seasons.
  • Wake Forest's home winning percentage of 81.7 percent since 2015 also ranks third nationally, behind only Denver (83.5) and Indiana (83.3).
  • Over the last 10 years against ACC opponents in home regular season action, Wake Forest is 31-3-6 at Spry and currently on an eight-match unbeaten streak.
Complete Team Effort Continues
  • Now riding a six-match unbeaten streak, which ranks tied for the third-longest in the ACC heading into the weekend, Wake Forest's recent success has been fueled by a team-first mentality.
  • Over the last six matches, eight different Demon Deacons have logged goals while seven different players have registered assists.
  • Freshman Dylan Borso and junior Basit Umar both recorded goals at Syracuse and UNCW, while graduates Colin Thomas and Sidney Paris, senior Nicolas Mancilla, junior Cooper Flax and freshmen Ryan Belal and Daniel Krueger have logged goals during this stretch.
  • Defensively, Wake Forest recorded four-straight clean sheets to begin the month of October and have allowed just five goals over the team's last 10 matches.
  • Senior goalkeeper Trace Alphin has made standout saves throughout the month, as the Raleigh, N.C., native is currently the ACC leader in goals against average (0.60) and save percentage (.875) in conference matches.
Scouting the Hokies
  • In the attack, the Hokies have utilized a balanced scoring attack as 14 different players have scored this season and eight have at least two goals.
