OKLAHOMA CITY - The No. 17 Wake Forest women's golf team defeated No. 2 South Carolina, 4.5-0.5, in match play Wednesday afternoon to take home third place at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

All five Deacs got up early in their matches and Wake Forest never trailed in a match. Sophomore Macy Pate got the Deacs on the board first, winning her first match 4&3 on the 15th green after staying at four up for three holes. She went up one on the first hole and never trailed, winning the 5th and 7th to make the turn three up. She got to her biggest lead on the 12th, going five up, before winning four up with three holes left.

Graduate student Sky Sload was the second point on the board for Wake. After tying her first two holes, Sload went up one on the third hole and hit back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes to go three up. She also won the seventh hole to make the turn four up. She remained four up through 13, then a birdie on the 14th was the match-winner. She won five up with four holes to play.

Freshman Denisa Vodickova earned the third and winning point for the Deacs with a birdie on the 16th green. She had a steady start, keeping her match tied through the first four holes, then dropped a birdie on the fifth to go up one. She stayed one up until sinking another birdie putt on the 12th to go two up. Another birdie on 14 put her three up, followed by the winning birdie putt on 16 to go four up with two holes to play.

Senior Carolina Chacarra finished her match to win, 4&2. Two birdies on her first nine had Chacarra twp up at the turn, and another birdie on the 14th put her three up. She won the match with a par save on 16 to go up four with two holes left to play.

Anne-Sterre den Dunnen finished her match, ending in a half-point for the Deacs as she tied.

Coach's Comments
"We had a nice showing here at the Stephens Cup. Carolina taking medalist honors among both the men and women is an unbelievable feat and we are very proud of her. It was fun for all of us to watch. Then to continue to play at a high level as a group in an outstanding match against a highly-ranked South Carolina team and get the win was just icing on the cake." - head coach Kim Lewellen
