Luke Tewalt steered the route in the men’s 8k in 22:39.0 with a seventh place individual finish. Angelina Perez executed a milestone time of 20:00.7 in Cary.

CARY, N.C.- The Wake Forest's men's cross country team claim the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship, marking the program's sixth title and the 58th overall ACC Championship for Wake Forest athletics.

All of the Demon Deacons' top-five spread garnered All-ACC honors by finishing in the top 21, the only team in the field to accomplish this.

With four Demon Deacons placing in the top 15 and six finishing in the top 50, the 2024 ACC Cross Country Champions surged ahead of No. 5 Stanford accumulating a total of 60 points in the 8k.

In 2022, three-time USTFCCCA Southeast Region Cross Country Coach of the Year, John Hayes led the squad to their first ACC Championship Title since 1994. Today, Hayes earned his second Championship Title in three years.

Exceptional talent Luke Tewalt became the fourth Wake Forest runner in program history to earn All-ACC honors on three separate occasions and first since his former teammate Zach Facioni.

Tewalt stole the show, smashing his personal-best of 23:06.9 with a seventh-place finish, clocking 22:39.0. Tewalt's performance surpassed his 12th-place finish and time of 23:31.9 at the 2023 ACC Championships.

As the highest-finishing freshman in his first ever collegiate 8k, JoJo Jourdon (22:40.1) captured an eighth place finish and became the fourth Demon Deacon to garner the ACC Freshman of the Year honors in the past eight years (following teammate Charlie Sprott who received the award in 2023).

With four runners earning personal-best times in back-to-back meets, All-ACC Award Winners Charlie Sprott 22:56.1, Aidan Ross 22:57.1, and Joseph O'Brien 22:59.4, broke their personal-best times after finishing 14th, 15th, and 16th.

O'Brien and Brooke Wilson (20:08.8) were both named All-ACC for the second-consecutive season. Of note, Wilson became the first back-to-back All-ACC honoree on the women's side for the Deacs since Sam Halvorsen (2017-2019).

For the women, All-ACC Award Winners Angelina Perez and Wilson prospered in the 6k leading the squad to a ninth place finish in the women's ACC Championship. Out of 164 runners, Perez earned a well-deserved career best crossing the finish line 15th with a time of 20:00.7, while Wilson achieved a dominant 19th place finish.

From the Staff
"The men came into the season picked to finish 6th in the ACC. They went out there today and fought so hard for that win. When all American Rocky struggled with the heat, he showed how important the fight and mental toughness is. Amazing win! The women struggled a bit two weeks ago, but today they showed that they were not content with that performance. It is so inspiring to watch these two groups compete!" - Director of Track & Field and Cross Country John Hayes

"We could not be more proud of the way our guys ran today. The ACC is such a tough conference and we have a lot of respect for the other teams that were in contention today. They have brought such good energy and work ethic all season that we knew even before the race started that we were gonna be proud of whatever the result ended up being. These guys love the work and they love each other. When you have that combination you're gonna give yourself chances to win championships and that is what they did today. We will enjoy this win and get back to work to prepare for regionals and nationals" - Assistant Coach Brandon Hazouri

"Toeing the line after the men clinched the victory was incredibly exciting. It reminded the women what's possible when you believe in yourself and fight hard for your teammates. They executed the race plan perfectly and I'm so proud of their efforts today! Angelina and Brooke, also led the team well with their All-ACC finishes." - Associate Head Coach Ashley Bastron
