Deacs Primed for Monday Matchup at No. 9 Duke

Big Four action continues in consecutive fashion for Wake Forest men’s basketball.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Nearing the midpoint of February, Wake Forest men's basketball (16-7, 8-4) will open the week with its third and final in-state road trip of the season, visiting No. 9 Duke (18-5, 9-3) on Monday (Feb. 12) for an evening showdown.
The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will be nationally televised on ESPN.
Monday will include the Demon Deacons' second consecutive test against a Big Four foe. Additionally, it will be the team's second matchup against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Wake Forest knocked off NC State, 83-79, in a Saturday-afternoon barn burner most recently, moving to a 13-0 mark inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest's 83-79 victory over NC State on Saturday (Feb. 10) involved a career performance from junior guard Hunter Sallis and a raucous season-best home crowd of 12,571 fans. Sallis poured in 31 points and extended his streak of 23 games with double digit points. The Omaha native went 12-of-17 from the field, including an impressive 6-of-7 clip in the first half. His performance included an eighth showing of 20 or more points this year to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Deacon defense performed well in neutralizing the Wolfpack down the stretch, holding NC State without a point during the final 1:57 of action. On the offensive end, the Deacs connected on four of their last five shots in the game, finishing the second half in making 16-of-30 attempts from the field (53.3 percent).
Wake Forest's 13-home game winning streak and 13-0 mark at LJVM Coliseum is the seventh-longest home win streak in program history and the longest since winning 16 consecutive games during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Andrew Carr contributed 15 points, including a go-ahead hook shot in the paint with under a minute to play. The senior forward additionally led Wake Forest in rebounds, snagging seven.
Redshirt sophomore guard Kevin Miller and junior guard Cameron Hildreth ended with 10 points apiece, with the former dishing out six assists. Efton Reid III added nine points and five rebounds.
The Deacs did well at the free-throw line, making 17-of-21 attempts (81.0 percent).

Hunter Sallis' 33-point performance in the Deacon's most recent outing, vs. NC State, tied with fellow junior Cameron Hildreth for the most points scored by a Wake Forest individual, along with being the fourth-highest total by a player in the head coach Steve Forbes era.

Now past the first half of ACC play this winter, Andrew Carr has given the Deacs a boost in being a consistent performer in floor efficiency. Against conference foes, the 6-11 forward is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 40.5 percent from three-point territory. For the year, Carr is first on the roster in total rebounds (159) and fourth in points (14.1 ppg).
