WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – With only a handful of regular-season contests remaining on its 2023-24 slate, Wake Forest men's basketball (16-8, 8-5) gears up for a second matchup of the year versus No. 21 Virginia (19-5, 10-3) this weekend. The Demon Deacons will visit the Cavaliers in Charlottesville on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17).

Action gets underway at 12 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN2.

Saturday will feature Wake Forest's second contest versus a nationally-ranked opponent in as many games, including the third overall one for the year.

The Deacs took on Virginia inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum just under a month ago (Jan. 13) when Wake Forest captured a 66-47 victory.

Wake Forest challenged No. 9 Duke on the road earlier this week (Feb. 12).

Last Time Out

The Demon Deacons and Blue Devils went toe-to-toe throughout Monday night (Feb. 12) before Duke finished on a victorious 77-69 note in Durham.

Hunter Sallis led the scoring attack for his Deacs, totaling a team-high 22 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor. He has now recorded 20 or more points in six appearances throughout Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, along with 12 such performances for the entire winter. Sallis added five rebounds and four assists to his line.

Andrew Carr chipped in 12 points, going 6-of-9 in his field goal attempts, and grabbed five rebounds.

Freshman reserve Parker Friedrichsen scored all 10 of his points in the second half, including two makes from distance.

Efton Reid III contributed eight points, four rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes, while Cameron Hildreth added six points, six boards and three steals. Kevin Miller led Wake Forest with seven boards.

The Deacons posted a 53.3 field-goal shooting percentage during the final 20 minutes.

Rim Protection

Wake Forest is third in the ACC in team blocks, totaling 106 for the season (4.42/game). Senior forward Andrew Carr sits sixth in the conference individually (1.54/game). In addition, 11 of his season total (37) has occurred through five of the team's last six games:
  • At North Carolina (1/22/24) – 2 blocks
  • At Pittsburgh (1/31/24) – 3 blocks
  • Versus Syracuse (2/3/24) – 1 block
  • At Georgia Tech (2/6/24) – 2 blocks
  • Versus NC State (2/10/24) – 3 blocks

Efton Reid III is second on the roster with 25 season blocks, having made 17 appearances.

Carr and Reid are tied for fifth place for most blocks by an ACC player in conference contests.

Heating Up

Having totaled 55 combined points in his last two performances, Hunter Sallis has enjoyed a sizzling first half of February, averaging 22.3 points per game for the month thus far.

The Omaha native now ranks second overall in scoring within conference play (19.2 ppg) and has posted a 58.6 field-goal percentage through the Deacs' last four showings.
