WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After a successful outing at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, the Wake Forest women's tennis team is set for its first two ACC matches of the season this weekend, as it will host Louisville on Friday before a Sunday clash with No. 28 Notre Dame. Both matches will be played at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
First serve for the match against the Cardinals is set for 4 p.m., while Sunday's match is slated for 12 p.m.
The Demon Deacons (6-5, 0-0 ACC) come into the weekend having won four of their last five matches, including two wins over top-25 opponents with a 4-0 sweep over No. 25 Yale and a 4-1 victory over No. 24 Illinois (4-1) last weekend at the Blue Gray Classic.
Individually, the Deacs are led by senior Casie Wooten. She is currently on a six-match winning streak and leads the team with six ranked wins since the start of fall play. Last week, she jumped to No. 26 in the ITA Singles Rankings and earned her second ACC Player of the Week honor of the season. Freshman Sankavi Gownder has also been impressive in singles, as she ranks second on the team with five wins to just two losses in dual play this campaign.
In doubles, senior Brooke Killingsworth and graduate student Marcella Cruz have led the charge for Wake Forest, helping the Deacs take the doubles point in seven of their 11 matches so far this season. As a pair, the duo is 5-3 in dual play this season with a ranked win over No. 27 Akli/Lancelot of South Carolina (Feb. 17). The performance against South Carolina saw them named ACC Doubles Team of the Week, the first Wake Forest pair to achieve the honor.
