Top-15 Big Four Matchup on Deck for No. 12 Wake Forest Baseball

For the third time this season, the Demon Deacons will play on the national stage with Saturday’s contest set to air on the ACC Network.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 12 Wake Forest baseball team welcomes No. 14 and Big Four rival North Carolina to David F. Couch Ballpark for the first time since 2016 with a three-game ACC series this weekend.

First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday's finale will begin at 1 p.m.

While Friday and Saturday's games are sold out, fans can still purchase tickets for Sunday's game through the Wake Forest Ticket Office while supplies last. Once a game is sold out, interested fans can still purchase tickets through Wake Forest Athletics trusted secondary marketplace for buying and reselling Demon Deacons tickets, Seat Geek.

These sellouts mark the second and third of the season. 
 
For those unable to attend any of the games this weekend, Friday and Sunday's games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and Saturday's game will be nationally televised on ACCN.

Series Preview
Wake Forest and North Carolina last met on the Diamond in 2022 in Chapel Hill. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels last trip to Winston-Salem came in 2016 when the Deacs swept UNC.

Multiple Safety Enhancements Added at David F. Couch Ballpark
To make it easier for all fans to get to their seats handrails have been installed in all stadium aisles at The Couch. Prior to the start of this weekend's series, the protective netting was extended out to cover all fans in general admission seating from potential balls leaving the playing field. Additional security cameras will be added to ensure the safety of fans attending games this season. For a full list of upgrades to The Couch, click here.

  • Junior first baseman Nick Kurtz ranks first in the nation with 1.56 bases on balls per game, as he has earned 28 free passes so far this season in just 18 games played.
  • He has drawn at least one walk in 14-consecutive games, including six games with multiple and three games with four.
  • Additionally, the Pennsylvania-native sits third all-time in Wake Forest history with 139 career walks.

Burns With The Heat 
  • Junior starter Chase Burns has been lights out in his first season with the Demon Deacons, posting a 5-0 record in his first six starts.
  • He ranks inside the top three  in the ACC in almost every main pitching category.

  • Over the last three outings against Duke, Virginia, and Louisville, he has allowed just three runs in 20 innings pitched (1.34 ERA) with a stellar 39 strikeouts to just four walks (9.75 K/BB).
  • The transfer has fanned at least 10 batters in five of his six starts this season, with the lone exception being an eight-strikeout performance against Dayton (2/24).
