Despite eight of the nine batters in the order reaching base, the No. 12 Wake Forest baseball team dropped a 10-6 contest to No. 14 North Carolina Saturday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Deacon Nation is well on pace to set an all-time weekend attendance record after two capacity crowds have opened the weekend series against No. 14 North Carolina as Saturday night saw another 3,514 regular season record tying crowd at David F. Couch Ballpark with the Tar Heels prevailing over the No. 12 Wake Forest baseball team, 10-6.
Through the first month and a half of the season, the Demon Deacons have seen five of the top 10 crowds in regular season history including the three largest in program history.
After falling behind early, the Deac continued to battle, plating three runs in the fourth and fifth combined. Wake Forest took its first lead of the game at 3-2 in the fifth when junior Seaver King doubled down the left field line to plate Marek Houston and Cam Nelson.
King, a consensus preseason All-American, finished the game with a pair of hits and two RBI. He is now hitting .304 on the season with 27 RBI. In the last seven games, King has racked up 11 RBI and has gone 10-of-31 (.323) at the plate.
Junior Nick Kurtz tallied a pair of hits and two RBI Saturday night with a double down the left field line plating Houston and Nelson in the ninth.
With seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched, junior lefthander Josh Hartle now has 220 strikeouts in his Wake Forest career which is 15 away from breaking into the top 10 in program history.

FROM COACH WALTER
"We haven't been able to grab any momentum in this series. We put some good at-bats together and took the lead. The two innings in this game that made the difference were the two three-spots in the sixth and eighth.
That is where our ball club is right now. They aren't missing the mistakes we make and we aren't capitalizing on their mistakes. Our bullpen is in a tough spot right now. It makes it hard because we don't want to go to Gunther or Ray unless we have the lead. It was a little early in the sixth inning and Falco got a big strikeout in the fifth inning. We went with him in the sixth hoping that we would get a zero there and turn it over to Gunther and Ray to finish it out. Unfortunately we didn't get there." - head coach Tom Walter
