The Demon Deacons will now prepare for the regular-season finale against Georgia Tech at noon on Sunday.

CLEMSON, S.C. - Behind a dominant all-around showing in singles play, the No. 36-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team defeated No. 57 Clemson, 4-1, at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in Clemson, S.C. Friday evening.

The Demon Deacons (15-11, 6-6 ACC) dropped the doubles point after the Tigers (11-11, 2-9 ACC) took courts two and three. Senior Brooke Killingsworth and graduate student Marcella Cruz took first doubles with a 6-3 win over Louka/Thompson on court one. The duo, ranked No. 82 in the nation, improved to an impressive 12-6 in dual play this campaign.

The Deacs bounced back in singles with wins on four of the six courts and clinched the match victory. Wake Forest also led on the remaining two courts when the match was clinched.

Senior Casie Wooten notched her team-high 15th win in dual play to just six losses with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court one over Eleni Louka. The No. 30 player in the nation has also accumulated 22 total wins since the start of the fall and six against ACC opponents.

In second singles, Killingsworth improved to 8-2 in her last 10 matches as she took down Cristina Mayorova, 6-3, 6-4, and clinched the victory. She now leads the team with seven wins over ACC opponents this season.

Cruz extended her winning streak to three-consecutive matches with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Daniella Medvedeva in third singles. With the win, she became the sixth Demon Deacon to reach double-digit singles victories in dual play this season.

In her first singles match since February, redshirt freshman Krystal Blanch earned a dominant, 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six and was the first Demon Deacon to close out a match Friday evening.

Sophomore Nevena Carton (6-2, 5-5) and freshman Sankavi Gownder (6-2, 1-6, 5-2) both led on courts four and five, respectively.

Wake Forest has now won six-consecutive matches against Clemson dating back to 2018. Additionally, the Deacs improved to 24-32 all-time against the Tigers.

From Coach Wyshner
"That was a huge performance in singles. The wind was absolutely ridiculous throughout the match and, after losing the doubles point, we just came out with the best first sets on courts 1-6 that we've had this year. It was great to get Krystal back out there healthy again, and I swear she played better than she did before she got hurt! Really important win. Not many chances left to cement our tournament resume so it was important to get the job done today!"

Next Up
Wake Forest will close out the regular season with a road clash against No. 24 Georgia Tech on Sunday, April 14. The match is scheduled for noon and can be streamed live here.
