The Asheville native has finished in the top-10 in both her final round appearances at the ANWA.
AUGUSTA, Ga. - For the second time in four appearances, Wake Forest women's golfer Rachel Kuehn has finished in the top 10 of the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
The Asheville native finished seventh in her first made cut in 2022 and finished T-8 Saturday in her second final-round showing.
"It was definitely a grind to get here," said Kuehn after her round. "The conditions at Champions Retreat were really tough and I definitely did not have my 'A' game. I'm really proud of the way I battled. I hung in there and shot I think 1-under on my last nine holes to make the cut on the number Thursday.
"I'm proud of myself, and I think there's a lot of girls that feel that way, but any chance you get to earn a tee time on the weekend at Augusta is really special."
In her final round, Kuehn made the turn at even par with a bogey-birdie on seven and eight. After a birdie-bogey on 13 and 14, she went into her final three holes still at even par for the day and three over for the event. A two-footer for birdie on 16 and a 12-footer for birdie on 17 got her to two under on the day and one over for the event, good for top-8 in a field of the best 72 female amateurs in the world.
"I've been really fortunate that now I've played in four of them, and it's so special every time. It doesn't get old. It doesn't get tiring. It gets even more exciting every time I come back."
With Kuehn planning to turn professional at the end of the summer, this is the final ANWA she is eligible to play in.
"I think it hit me kind of after that last putt went in on 18. I looked at Hailee (Cooper), and this is Hailee's last amateur event ever, so to get to be alongside her and watch her journey since junior golf has been really fun. Then I looked at Sean, my caddie every year here, and then got emotional. It's been a ride, and I've been so appreciative of this event, and I think it did finally hit me, yeah."
Former Demon Deacon golfer and teammate of Kuehn, Emilia Migliaccio, also competed Saturday. The Cary native was the oldest player in the field and the only one to have competed in all five ANWAs thus far, making three cuts. She finished T-30 with nothing but praise for the event at the conclusion of the round.
"The play is just continuing to get better," said Migliaccio. "Starting from 2019 until now, the scores are still really good, and people are still rising to the top. Augusta National and Chairman Ridley - they just do everything they can to make the tournament better and better, but you can't really make Augusta National better than perfect. I would call it perfect."
