First baseman Nick Kurtz homered five times in the three-game set with three in the series finale against the Hokies.
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior Nick Kurtz added a trio of home runs for his sixth, seventh and eighth in the last five games to catapult No. 21 Wake Forest past No. 11 Virginia Tech, 10-4, and complete the three-game sweep of No. 11 Virginia Tech at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park on Sunday afternoon.
The three game sweep of the Hokies (21-8, 10-5 ACC) marks the first in program history for the Deacs (21-10, 7-8 ACC) on the road in Blacksburg.
With his trio of home runs on Sunday, Kurtz moved into sole possession of the fourth-most career home runs in Wake Forest history with 50. His seven RBI on Sunday also marked a season-high for the Lancaster, Pa., product, and the second-most in a single game in his career.
Kurtz became the first Demon Deacon with three home runs in a game since Brock Wilken against Alabama in the Winston-Salem Super Regional last season.
Transfer Seaver King added his second home run of the weekend with a solo shot for an insurance run in the eighth. The junior finished 1-for-3 and three RBI, adding an RBI groundout in the fifth inning and a sac fly in the ninth.
Starter Michael Massey earned the win to move to 4-1 on the season. The righty held Virginia Tech to three runs (two earned) while striking out three. The combination of Haiden Leffew, Blake Morningstar, Josh Gunther, Zach Johnston and Will Ray held Virginia Tech to just three hits over the final five innings with no earned runs allowed.

STAGGERING STATISTICS
"That was a huge win for us. That gets us closer to .500, which is goal No. 1 to get back to .500 in the league and try to build a resume from there where we can be in consideration to host. This weekend was obviously a huge step in that direction against a really good team. I told the guys afterwards, I'm not sure who had a better weekend: Nick Kurtz or our bullpen.
If they could give a pitcher of the week to a bullpen, they would give it to ours, because our bullpen was very special this weekend. Of course, Nick Kurtz, I don't know if I've ever seen a display like that. Especially on a day like today with the wind blowing in. Seaver King had some really great at bats again today. That home run in the eighth was a huge insurance run. He also had a few situational bats where he drove in runners from third base. I'm really happy with Seaver's at bats today as well. The story of the weekend was our bullpen and Nick Kurtz." - head coach Tom Walter
