Deacon Sports Xtra: Field Hockey Alum Kelly Doton Inducted Into USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame

Doton is one of five inductees in the 2024 Hall of Fame class that was honored on May 24.
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Legendary Wake Forest Field Hockey alum Kelly Doton was inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame. Doton was among four other inductees in the 2024 Hall of Fame Class that was honored in a celebration on Friday, May 24.
"Kelly's induction into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame is yet another testament to the incredible and influential woman that she is and continues to be," said Wake Forest field hockey head coach Jen Averill. "Kelly has a perfect blend of humility combined with self-efficacy that attracts and motivates anyone and all in her company. The celebration was a wonderful tribute to Amy, Katelyn, Pat and Dr. Grant."
Doton played for Wake Forest from 2000-03, helping the Demon Deacons become back-to-back national champions in 2002 and 2003. Doton was the ACC Player of the Year in both 2002 and 2003, as well as the National Player of the Year in 2003. She was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in both 2002 and 2003, was a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American, and three time All-ACC honoree.
During her career at Wake Forest, Doton recorded 130 career points, 44 career goals, and 42 career assists, all of which are in the top five in program history.
In 2015, Doton was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame.
Following her collegiate career, Doton was named to the US Women's National Field Hockey Team in 2005. During her international career, Doton competed in the Women's Field Hockey World Cup in 2006, the Pan American games in 2007, and led the US team to an eighth place finish in the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008.
After her playing career, Doton started her coaching career at Indiana University, where she was an assistant coach from 2008-2012 before becoming the head coach at Boston College in 2015.
