The Deacs will host Stanford on Friday, May 10.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In front of an energetic and enthusiastic home crowd, the No. 6-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over Arizona State Saturday evening at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.

The Demon Deacons (29-6, 10-2 ACC) have now reached the Sweet 16 seven times since 2015, including two of the past three seasons.

For the second-consecutive match, Wake Forest clinched the doubles point, as No. 2 DK Suresh Ekambaram/Holden Koons and Filippo Moroni/Matthew Thomson earned wins on courts one and two, respectively.

Opening singles play, Arizona State won the first set on four courts, before going on to take a 2-1 lead with victories in third and fourth singles. Freshman Luca Pow then squared the contest, 2-2, with a win on court five, leaving just three courts undecided.

The Sun Devils immediately regained the lead with a win in second singles, pulling themselves within one point of clinching the match.

Despite dropping the second set, and going down a break in the third, No. 25 Filippo Moroni stormed back to defeat No. 11 Murphy Cassone on court one to even the ledger at three apiece.

All eyes then turned to graduate student Holden Koons on court six as the York, Pa., native held serve to take a 6-5 lead in the final set. Koons then broke Martin Vergara of Arizona State to clinch the match, securing the Demon Deacons' spot in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Of note, Koons and Pow are now a combined 47-6 in dual singles play this season.

From Coach Bresky
"This was a great match, and we were fortunate to pull it out. Arizona State fought really hard. Congratulations to them on a great season. We knew when we saw the draw it was going to be super tough. They have some really good players, and they showed it today. We'd like to think the work we put in, and the training we've done, along with all the tough matches we've played prepared us for this moment. We're excited to get the opportunity to play at home again next weekend." - Head coach Tony Bresky
