Deacs Lead Field After Day One of Regional Play

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team leads the 12-team regional field after the first 18 holes of play. Graduate Rachel Kuehn was the low Deac of the day with a five-under score of 67.
At the turn, Wake Forest was four under par before finishing the day 11 under par and leading the field. The Deacs lit up the second nine holes of the day with 10 birdies across four players. Junior Carolina Chacarra led the way with four birdies and no bogeys on her second nine holes, including dropping back-to-back putts on 13 and 14.
Kuehn had two birdies on her final five holes to get to five under on the day, after making the turn at three under thanks to birdies on 2 and 8 and an eagle on 4. Freshman Macy Pate added to the low score for Wake with four birdies in her round, three of which came on her second nine holes. Pate and Chacarra each finished three under par for day one.
Freshman Brooke Rivers finished even par in her first NCAA Regional event and senior Mimi Rhodes was one-over in her opening round. All five Deacs are in the top half of the 66-player field, including Kuehn, Pate and Chacarra all inside the top five.
Tuesday's second round will begin at 8 a.m. with tee times in 11-minute intervals. Wake Forest will start at 8 a.m. off the first tee and will be paired with Tennessee and Ole Miss.
