Senior Carolina Chacarra finished the first event of the year in third place with an impressive 10-under-par score and one of just three players to finish 10-under or better.

LAKE ELMO, Minn. - The Wake Forest women's golf team placed third as one of just four teams under par at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M.

Senior Carolina Chacarra led the way for the Demon Deacons, finishing the tournament 10-under-par. After another strong day at Royal Golf Club, Chacarra placed third in the elite field that featured some of the top teams in the country.

Chacarra was the low Demon Deacon on the leaderboard Wednesday, firing a final round 68 (-4) to solidify her spot near the top of the leaderboard. She had a strong stretch to start the day as she was 3-under-par through the first four holes.

After hitting the turn at 1-under-par, Chacarra closed the round strong, going bogey-free with three birdies over the final nine holes. This marks the 10th top-five finish of her career and 13th top-10 finish.

Sophomore Macy Pate recorded the other even par or better round of the day for the Demon Deacons, helping lead Wake Forest to a three-round score of 861 (-3). The Deacs finished just behind nationally-ranked South Carolina and Oregon.

Pate, who was 3-under in the opening round of the tournament, had a consistent and solid day on Wednesday, tallying a pair of birdies around the turn to card a 72 (E) round. The Winston-Salem native tied for 16th on the individual leaderboard, ending the tournament 1-over-par.

With a strong round of 73 (+1), freshman Denisa Vodickova capped off her collegiate debut by moving up six spots on the individual leaderboard and tying for 39th.

Junior Anne-Sterre den Dunnen tied for 34th, bookending her tournament with counting rounds for the team while freshman Sarah Lydic tied for 44th.

Coach's Comments
"We had a nice showing and I am especially happy for Carolina and the way she played all week. She has worked hard since her injury last spring. We have a lot of new faces and I look forward to continuing to learn their games and continue to improve for championships." - head coach Kim Lewellen
