Demon Deacons Release Fall Matchups

The Wake Forest baseball team will look for its fourth-straight NCAA Regional appearance in 2025, the longest streak since making five-straight regionals from 1998-2002.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Battling a pair of NCAA Tournament teams, the Wake Forest baseball team will face St. John's and West Virginia this fall, along with seven intrasquad scrimmages at David F. Couch Ballpark.

"We're excited for the challenge that our fall schedule presents," head coach Tom Walter said. "Facing off against teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament a year ago will help us form the identity of our ballclub as we welcome 27 new players into the clubhouse."
 
The Deacs open the fall competition slate traveling to Queens to face 2024 BIG EAST Champions St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Jack Kaiser Stadium. The Red Storm are coming off a 38-18-1 season that ended in the Charlottesville Regional. 
 
Wake Forest returns home the following Sunday, Oct. 27 to face West Virginia at The Couch. The Mountaineers finished the season 36-24, advancing to the 2024 Chapel Hill Super Regional after sweeping through the Tucson Regional. 
 
The Deacs will also hold scrimmages at The Couch during their fall practice session on the following dates:
Friday, Sept. 27 - First pitch 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 29 - First pitch 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 5 - First pitch 3:30 p.m. 
Sunday, Oct. 6 - First pitch 1:30 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 11 - First pitch 4 p.m. 
Sunday, Oct. 13 - First pitch 1:30 p.m. 
Saturday, Oct. 26 - First pitch 3:30 p.m. 
First pitch times are subject to change and are weather dependent.

2025 Outlook 
On the bump, the Deacs return 195.0 innings pitched (37.2 percent), led by rising sophomore's Josh Gunther, Haiden Leffew, Blake Morningstar and Cam Nelson's 101.3 combined innings as freshmen.

Wake Forest added a trio of ACC transfer arms with the additions of Matt Bedford, Griffin Green and Luke Schmolke, while adding a pair of SEC hurlers in Matthew Dallas and Logan Lunceford.

Additionally the Deacs added a flame-throwing righty in Nate Brittain from Campbell, who has been clocked up to 100 mph, while bringing in a pair of top 100 freshmen in Chris Levonas (No. 44) and Duncan Marsten (No. 63) according to Perfect Game.

At the plate, Wake Forest brings back 921 at-bats (45.1 percent), led by Marek Houston and Jack Winnay's 243 combined ABs.

The Deacs also bring in 821 collegiate at-bats from a season ago in transfers Ethan Conrad (226), Jimmy Keenan (218), Kade Lewis (207) and Matt Scannell (170). 
 
Conrad joins the Deacs from Marist where he hit .335 with 45 extra-base hits as a sophomore and took home the 2024 Summer Breaker Prospect for his performance in the Cape Cod League by D1 Baseball.
 
Keenan and Lewis were both named All-Big EAST selections, while Lewis was also named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year for his standout season at Butler. Scannell joins Wake Forest after a standout career at Princeton, where he was a three-time All-Ivy League selection.

The 2024 Wake Forest freshman class ranks 11th overall according to Perfect Game, marking the highest-ranked first-year class in program history for the Demon Deacons.
