Hansen Named USTFCCCA NCAA Division One National Athlete of the Week

This marks the first time a Demon Deacon runner has earned the award since its creation.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Following a dominant performance at the ACC Cross Country Championships in Louisville last Friday, junior Rocky Hansen was tabbed as the USTFCCCA NCAA D1 National Athlete of the Week, as announced by the national office on Monday afternoon.
Hansen becomes the first Demon Deacon runner to earn the award since the award was created back in 2013.
The Hendersonville, N.C., native was tabbed for the honor after clinching the ACC Individual Championship, finishing the 8k race in 22:18.6 to shatter the previous course record at E.P "Tom" Sawyer" State Park by 40 seconds.
"I'm incredibly grateful to be named the USTFCCCA D1 National Athlete of the Week," Hansen said. "It has been very satisfying to see all my hard work come together in races. Elated for the opportunities that lie ahead these next few weeks! Can't wait to see what the guys can do. Let's keep it going!"

"He executed with confidence, composure, and grit from start to finish. Earning USTFCCCA Athelte of the Week is a well-deserved recognition of the work he's put in and the level he's competing at right now."
Hansen has secured two individual titles this season, including taking first place at the Panorama Farms Invitational while breaking the 8k course record in the process. As a result, Hansen secured his fourth career ACC weekly honor as he was named ACC Men's Performer of the Week on Oct. 21.
Hansen and the rest of the Wake Forest cross country program will be back in action next weekend as they are set to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional at the Panorama Farms course in Earlysville, Va. on Friday, Nov. 14. The women's race is set to begin at 10 a.m., while the men's race will immediately follow at 11 a.m.
