The Hendersonville, N.C., native recorded a time of 22:18.6 as he shattered the previous course record by 40 seconds en route to the title.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Highlighted by junior Rocky Hansen claiming the ACC Individual Title in record-breaking fashion, the Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams opened postseason action at the ACC Cross Country Championships at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park on Friday morning. The No. 12 men's team placed third, while the No. 28 women's team finished ninth.

Hansen crossed the finish line of the men's 8k race in 22:18.6, shattering the previous course record by 40 seconds. This marked the Hendersonville, N.C., native's second individual title and his second time setting a new course record this season, having previously placed first at the Panorama Farms Invitational.

Sophomore JoJo Jourdon added another standout result, clocking a time of 23:07.4 to place 16th and join Hansen as one of two All-ACC honorees for the men.

Junior Hunter Jones set a new personal-best time of 23:25.9 to finish 25th, improving his result from last year's race by 26 places. Senior Paul Specht and redshirt junior Joe O'Brien rounded out the top-five finishers for the Demon Deacons, placing 34th and 35th, respectively.

On the women's side, junior Angelina Perez once again led the Deacs with a ninth-place finish, clocking a time of 19:38.4 to earn All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season.

The Ringwood, N.J., native has now logged four top-10 finishes this season, including claiming the first individual title of her collegiate career at the Queen City Invite. Perez also recorded a runner-up performance at the Arturo Barrios Invitational and a fourth-place result at the Gans Creek Classic earlier this season.

Junior Brooke Wilson was the next-best finisher for the Deacs, placing 31st with a time of 20:14.1. Senior Elizabeth Whaley finished 49th after recording a time of 20:31.2. Graduate student Maisie Wilmer and senior Mackenzie Hart placed 76th and 77th, respectively, to complete the top five for Wake Forest.

From the Staff
"We fell short on both sides today. I think we can fix some of the issues in the coming weeks. We've seen all year how strong the women have been running. Today we did not reach our potential. We are more than capable of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in two weeks. Our men ran hard, but fell short of winning. We talk about the process all the time. There are little ways we can be better. If they continue to stay positive and focused, then we will have a lot of success at regionals and at NCAA. Individually, Angelina [Perez] and Rocky [Hansen] ran very well. Rocky really crushed a very strong field and destroyed the course record on a course that has had many elite athletes compete on it. " - Director of Track & Field and Cross Country John Hayes

"Today was not our day and that's on me. The race plan I gave was too conservative and it didn't set the women up the way I expected it to. That said, it doesn't change our goals for the remainder of the season. We will reset and get back to training so we can be ready for the NCAA Southeast Region in two weeks." - Associate Head Coach Ashley Bastron
