Women
Men
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons recently competed at the ACC Cross Country Championships at E.P "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., highlighted by Junior Rocky Hansen claiming the men's ACC Individual Championship in record-breaking fashion.

Hansen finished the race 40 seconds faster than the previous course record at 22:18.6, helping the men's team earn a third place finish. Meanwhile, sophomore JoJo Jourdon joined Hansen in earning All-ACC honors, as he clocked a time of 23:07.4 to place 16th.

On the women's side, junior Angelina Perez earned All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season, leading the Deacs with a ninth place result after setting a time of 19:38.4. Overall, the Deacs placed two other runners in the top-50 to claim ninth as a team.

Last Year at the NCAA Southeast Regional
During last season's NCAA Southeast Regional in Rock Hill, S.C., both the men's and women's squads earned top five finishes. Additionally, six Demon Deacons earned All-Region honors at last year's meet.

The men's team secured a fifth place finish, helping them secure their fifth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Three Deacs placed inside the top-15, with Joe O'Brien leading the way as he clocked a time of 30:01.7 to place 10th. Finishing just behind O'Brien in 11th, Charlie Sprott recorded a time of 30:02.1 to also earn All-Region honors. Wake Forest graduate Luke Tewalt rounded out the All-Region honors for the men's team, placing 15th with a time of 30:14.2.

Meanwhile, the women's season closed out their 2024 season with a fourth place finish while placing three runners in the top-25. Perez led the Demon Deacons with a 10th place finish to earn her first All-Region honors of her collegiate career. Brooke Wilson closed out her outstanding sophomore season with a 17th place result en route to her second-straight All-Region honor. Finally, Elizabeth Whaley rounded out the top-25 finishers for Wake Forest as she placed 23rd to earn All-Region honors as well.

Rocking with Rocky
Junior Rocky Hansen has been nothing short of unstoppable this season as he has claimed two individual titles. The Hendersonville, N.C., native started his season with a first-place finish at the Panorama Farms Invitational, before claiming the ACC Individual Championship at the ACC Cross Country Championships. In addition to claiming top-spot at both races, Hansen has also set course records in both meets.

Women's Program on the Rise
Under the direction of associate head coach Ashley Bastron, the Wake Forest women's cross country team is competing at a high level this season, having secured three top-10 finishes thus far. The Deacs have claimed three team victories this season, having placed first at the Queen City Invite, the Spartan Classic, and the Arturo Barrios Invitational. Wake Forest also earned a tenth place finish at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., where the Demon Deacons had three runners place inside the top-50.

The John Hayes Era
Since arriving in Winston-Salem in 2016, Hayes has helped the men's cross country team grow into a national powerhouse. Under his leadership, the Demon Deacons have claimed two ACC titles in 2022 and 2024, resulting in Hayes earning ACC Coach of the Year honors both years. Hayes was also named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Coach Of The Year four of the last five seasons (2020-22, 2024).

Along with their success in the ACC, the Deacs have also earned a spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in five consecutive seasons, extending the longest streak in program history. During this five-year stretch, Wake Forest has finished inside the top-10 twice, including a fifth-place finish in 2022.

Over the course of his tenure with the Deacs, Hayes has produced six All-Americans, including Zach Facioni, the first three-time All-American in program history. In addition, Hayes coached Rocky Hansen to the Demon Deacons' first men's ACC Individual Title since 2001 at the 2025 ACC Cross Country Championships. Hayes has also coached four ACC Freshman of the Year performers, including back-to-back winners in Charlie Sprott (2023) and JoJo Jourdon (2024), and 14 All-ACC honorees.

Next Up
The Demon Deacons will await their NCAA Championship fate during the NCAA Cross Country Selection Show on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. The Selection Show will be broadcast live on NCAA.com.

If selected, the Deacs will head to Columbia, Mo. to compete at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships next Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Gans Creek Course. The women's race will start at 10:20 a.m., while the men's race is set to begin at 11:10 a.m. Both races will be streamed live on ESPNU.
