Demon Deacons Set to Continue Road Stretch Against Navy and William & Mary

The Deacs will face off against Navy for the first time in program history on Friday at 1 p.m., before taking on William & Mary on Sunday at 11 a.m.

ANNAPOLIS, MD. and WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – The No. 39 Wake Forest women's tennis team is set to continue its extended road trip with non-conference action against both Navy and William & Mary this weekend.
The Demon Deacons open the weekend with its first ever meeting against Navy, taking on the Midshipmen on Friday at 1 p.m. All matches will be live streamed via Track Tennis as live scoring will occur throughout the match here.
The Deacs will then take on William & Mary on Sunday, with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m. All matches will be available to watch on Playsight, while scores will be updated throughout the match here.

Last Time Out
The Deacs opened up their six-match road stretch by splitting their doubleheader against South Carolina and in-state rival Western Carolina this past Saturday.
Wake Forest fell to the Gamecocks in the first match, 4-1, earning their only point of the match in doubles play. After falling behind early in the doubles match, the Demon Deacons battled back with wins from graduate student Makayla Mills and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch over Buchwald/Hamner at first doubles (6-4), and graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate at third doubles against Bergqvist Larsson/Malkin (7-5).
The Deacs bounced back in the second match, sweeping the Catamounts, 4-0. Junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum picked up a 6-0 victory over Redondo/Samola at second doubles, while Zhang/Pate defeated Osadova/Perez, 6-1, to secure the doubles point.
Sophomore Sankavi Gownder and freshman Brianna Baldi picked up nearly simultaneous victories to put the Demon Deacons up 3-0. Gownder defeated Angela Perez at fourth singles (6-1, 6-2), while Baldi added a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Andrea Redondo at fifth singles.
Junior Jingyi Li clinched the match for Wake Forest with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Zoe Liu at sixth singles.
Doubles Dominance
The Demon Deacons have been dominant in doubles matches this season as they have gone 20-3 in doubles play through their first nine matches.
Pate and graduate student Anna Zhang lead the Demon Deacons with a 8-0 record on the season, while junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum are 7-2 as a duo. Blanch/Mills also improved to 5-1 at first doubles following their victory against South Carolina's Buchwald/Hamner this past weekend.
Off to a Hot Start
The Deacs have gotten off to a hot start in singles play with an overall record of 37-15. Gownder currently leads the Deacs with an 8-2 record on the year, while Baldi improved to 7-2 for her freshman campaign following her win against Western Carolina's Redondo this past weekend. Pate and Tannenbaum both hold six wins on the season, with Pate holding a 6-2 record and Tannenbaum sitting at 6-3. Carton currently sits at 5-2 after moving up into the first singles spot this season, while Blanch rounds out the top of the Wake Forest squad with a 3-2 record.
Deacs in the ITA Rankings
The Demon Deacons jumped up to the No. 39 team in the country following the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) poll. The Deacs currently hold an 8-3 record on the season and are one of 11 Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked inside the top-50.
Two Deacs also earned high rankings in both singles and doubles polls. Blanch was named the No. 95 singles player in the country, while she and Mills were named the No. 75 doubles partnership by the ITA.
Win No. 195 and Counting
After becoming the all-time winningest head coach in women's tennis program history earlier this season, head coach Jeff Wyshner earned his 195th career victory after splitting Saturday's doubleheader.
Under Wyshner's leadership, the Demon Deacons have amassed a 195-182 overall record and have made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wyshner has also helped produce three All-Americans during his 15-year tenure, including Singles All-American Carolyn Campana (2021), and Doubles All-Americans MC Meredith and Eliza Omiru (2020) and Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth (2022).
Scouting the Opposition
Navy comes into their matchup with the Demon Deacons with a 5-6 record. The Midshipmen are currently on a two-match win streak after defeating both Tampa and Air Force last weekend.
Navy is led by senior Emily Tannenbaum, who is the older sister of the Deacs' Kady Tannenbaum. Tannenbaum, who is currently ranked No. 92 in singles by the ITA, is 6-2 in singles matches, primarily playing at the No. 1 position for the Midshipmen. Meanwhile, sophomore Olivia Fermo and freshman Emma Gu lead the way in doubles play, with the pair holding a 3-0 record in dual matches this season.
William & Mary comes into Sunday's contest with a 5-1 record, including wins over George Washington and UNC Wilmington in their most recent matches.
The Tribe are led by senior Hedda Gurholt and sophomore Francesca Davis, who both sit at 5-1 in singles matches this season. Davis also holds a 4-2 record in doubles play alongside her partner, senior Alessandra Anghel.
