No. 1 Wake Forest Returns Home for Trio of Matches

The Demon Deacons will take on Miami this Friday before a double-header against Florida State and NC A&T on Sunday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In the penultimate home weekend of the 2025 campaign, the No. 1-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team is set for three home matches this weekend highlighted by ACC contests against No. 34 Miami and No. 32 Florida State.
The Demon Deacons (21-0, 4-0 ACC) will open the weekend against the Hurricanes (8-4, 2-2 ACC) on Friday at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the Deacs will battle the Seminoles (10-5, 2-2 ACC) at noon before taking on NC A&T (9-0, 0-0 CAA) at 4 p.m.

The Demon Deacons are in the midst of their best start in program history, with 21-consecutive wins to open the season surpassing the previous record of 14 set by the 2018 National Championship team. Wake Forest is also a combined 76-24 in singles and 43-8 in doubles so far this season, taking all 21 doubles points.

Further solidifying its status as the best team in the country, the No. 1-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team picked up a 4-1 ACC road win over No. 5 Virginia last Sunday afternoon on the outdoor courts at the Boar's Head Resort.
The Demon Deacons have earned 11 wins over ranked opponents, including six against top-10 foes and four over teams in the top-five.
Wake Forest Top-10 Wins (2025)
Junior DK Suresh Ekambaram and freshman Charlie Robertson set the tone early in doubles with a strong 6-3 victory over No. 67 Dietrich/Dahlberg on court one. The duo, ranked No. 5 in the country, improved to 6-0 together and 3-0 against ranked pairs.
After the Cavaliers (9-5, 1-3 ACC) took the third doubles court, the point would come down to sophomore Luca Pow and graduate student Luciano Tacchi on court two. The No. 6-ranked doubles team outlasted Jodar/Hopper (7-6[8]) in a thrilling tiebreak for their team-high 11th win together this season.
Following their clutch doubles win, Tacchi and Pow both got it done in singles in straight sets. On court four, Tacchi was the first to finish as he quickly handled Jangjun Kim (6-1, 6-0) and became the third Demon Deacon to reach double-digit singles wins this season, joining Pow and fellow graduate student Ioannis Xilas.
Pow, who now leads the team with 14 singles wins to just two losses, clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Måns Dahlberg on court five. In addition to his team-high 14 wins, Pow also holds the longest winning streak on the squad at nine.
Just moments before Pow clinched, graduate student Franco Capalbo remained perfect on the season (5-0) as he defeated Stiles Brocket (6-1, 6-2) on court six.

The Demon Deacons were tabbed as the best team in the nation in the latest ITA poll, one of seven ACC teams in the top 25. Individually, Wake Forest has three singles players and five doubles pairs ranked.

The Bresky Era
Since arriving at Wake Forest, head coach Tony Bresky has enjoyed a decorated career, winning ITA National Coach of the Year in 2018, along with garnering ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2013 and 2016. Additionally, Bresky has been tabbed ITA Regional Coach of the Year on five occasions (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2024). Of note, Bresky led Wake Forest to its first-ever national title in 2018, after accumulating a 33-2 mark. Most recently, he led Wake Forest to its second ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Individually, Bresky has coached two ACC Players of the Year (Noah Rubin and Melios Efstathiou), along with 35 All-ACC selections and 10 ITA Singles All-Americans.
During his tenure at Wake Forest, Bresky has amassed 350 wins. Of note, early in 2023 with a victory over No. 6 Tennessee, Bresky became the winningest coach in program history, surpassing the legendary Jim Leighton.

Bresky's teams have also excelled in the classroom during his stint in Winston-Salem, as he's coached 22 All-ACC Academic Team honorees and an ACC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year.
