The Deacs continue their Big Four weekend on Sunday against No. 7 Duke.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team returned to action on Friday night as they faced off against No. 4 North Carolina (14-3, 5-0 ACC) at the Chewning Tennis Center, falling to the Tar Heels, 4-0.
The Demon Deacons (12-6, 2-3 ACC) dropped the doubles point for only the third time this season after North Carolina took both second and third doubles. Junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum had battled back in their match at first doubles, closing the gap against Maltby/Brantmeier to 4-3 before the doubles match was clinched.
Tannenbaum earned the lone first set victory for the Demon Deacons during singles action, nearly securing her first ever win over a top-50 opponent in the process. The Commack, N.Y., native was only one game away from the win over No. 43 Carson Tanguilig at third singles, seeing her match go unfinished (6-1, 6-5).
Wake Forest will now turn its attention to another Big Four rival with a matchup against No. 7 Duke on Sunday. First serve is slated for noon.

From Coach Wyshner
"We played some good, solid tennis today. We were very shorthanded today with three starters out of the lineup and the team's response to that was to go out and compete. The play from our top three was outstanding! It was a good first match back after a 12-day break. I like the way that we are working and playing as we head into the most important and toughest part of the season." - head coach Jeff Wyshner
