Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons closed out their six-match road stretch with their first two ACC contests of the season against No. 24 Notre Dame and Louisville. Wake Forest split the two matchups, falling to the Fighting Irish in a heartbreaker, 4-3, and defeating Louisville, 5-1.

The Deacs sprinted out to a 3-0 lead against the Fighting Irish on Friday after securing the doubles point and getting wins from freshman Brianna Baldi at sixth singles and graduate student Anna Zhang at third singles. Unfortunately, the Demon Deacons were unable to hold off the Notre Dame comeback as the Fighting Irish rattled off four-straight wins in singles.

Wake Forest bounced back against the Cardinals on Sunday to get their first ACC win of the season. Zhang and junior Whitley Pate earned their second win of the weekend at third doubles before junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum clinched the doubles point with a victory at second doubles.

After Louisville evened the match, the Deacs won four-consecutive matches to get the 5-1 victory. Zhang gave the Demon Deacons the lead back with her second win of the weekend at third singles. Redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch then put Wake Forest 3-1 after a three-set victory at second singles. Carton and Pate closed out the match for the Deacs with simultaneous wins at first and fourth singles.

Meanwhile, Carton and Tannenbaum, who also won both their matches against Notre Dame and Louisville, eclipsed the 10-win mark over the weekend as they improved to 10-2 as a duo.

Closing In on Win No. 200
After becoming the all-time winningest head coach in women's tennis program history earlier this season, head coach Jeff Wyshner earned his 198th career victory following the Deacs win over Louisville on Sunday.

Under Wyshner's leadership, the Demon Deacons have amassed a 198-183 overall record and have made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wyshner has also helped produce three All-Americans during his 15-year tenure, including Singles All-American Carolyn Campana (2021), and Doubles All-Americans MC Meredith and Eliza Omiru (2020) and Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth (2022).

Scouting the Opposition
The Cavaliers head into Winston-Salem as the No. 2 team in the country, having amassed an 11-2 record so far this season. Virginia is also 3-0 to start ACC play, having beaten Clemson, Georgia Tech, and SMU in their last three contests.

Along with being ranked No. 2 as a team, the Cavaliers also have the No. 1 doubles team in the country in seniors Elaine Chervinsky and Melodie Collard. Chervinsky and Collard are 24-1 this season, including a 7-0 record in dual matches. Along with Chervinsky/Collard, the Cavaliers have two other doubles teams ranked inside the top-65 of the ITA poll, with junior Annabelle Xu and freshman Martina Genis Salas at No. 35, and graduate student Sara Ziodoto and junior Margaret Navarro at No. 65.

In singles, Virginia has three players inside the top-25. Chervinsky is the highest-ranked Cavalier at No. 18, while Ziodato is at No. 22 with a team-best 10-0 record during the spring. Xu rounds out the top-25 at No. 24.

Virginia Tech comes into the weekend at 9-4 on the season, but have lost their last three matches, all of which have come against ACC opponents.

The Hokies are an experienced team consisting of six seniors and two juniors. Leading the way in singles for the Hokies is junior Ozlem Uslu, who currently sits at 7-3 on the season and is ranked just outside the top-25 at No. 26. Meanwhile, Uslu and fellow senior Charlotte Cartledge are ranked at No. 60 in doubles.

Charlotte currently sits at 11-2 on the season and have won five-straight matches coming into Monday's matchup with the Demon Deacons, moving them to No. 64 in the country. The 49ers are a combined 50-10 this season in singles matches and 27-5 in doubles action.

Junior Lucia Aranda leads the 49ers in singles with a 9-1 record this spring, while graduate student Amira Badawi and freshman Ni Xi fall just behind at 7-1. In doubles, Xi and redshirt sophomore Shona Nakano are undefeated at 9-0, while Badawi and sophomore Sara Suchankova sit at 9-2 in dual match play.
