Demon Deacons Set for Final Weekend of the Regular Season

Wake Forest will open play on Friday against Stanford before taking on California on Sunday as part of Senior and Graduates Day.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After concluding the road portion of its 2025 schedule, the No. 34 Wake Forest women's tennis team is set to wrap up regular season play with a pair of matches on Leighton Courts against No. 29 Stanford and No. 18 California.
The Demon Deacons (14-10, 3-7 ACC) open their final weekend of the regular season against the Cardinal (13-6, 6-4 ACC) on Friday, with first serve slated for 4 p.m. The Deacs will then take on the Golden Bears (11-6, 8-2) on Sunday at noon.
Prior to the match against Cal, Wake Forest will be honoring graduate students Anna Zhang and Makayla Mills as part of Senior and Graduates Day.
Both matches this weekend are free to all spectators and will be available for streaming via Playsight. Live scores will also be available for both Friday and Sunday here.
Parking Update
Free parking for Leighton Courts is available at the Indoor Tennis Center, as well as additional overflow parking in the Gold Lot. Due to ongoing construction of The Grounds, both Piccolo Drive and Deacon Boulevard will be closed until further notice. Fans will need to enter the Indoor Tennis Center parking lot from Reynolds and/or 32nd Street off Shorefair Drive.

The Demon Deacons closed out the road portion of its schedule this past weekend, falling to both No. 71 Miami and No. 75 Florida State. After getting swept by the Hurricanes on Friday, 4-0, the Deacs managed to grab a point against the Seminoles on Sunday, ultimately falling 4-1.
Wake Forest's lone point of the weekend came during the doubles match against Florida State. Following a FSU win at second doubles, the Deacs took both first and third doubles to clinch the point. Graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate earned a 6-3 victory at third doubles to tie the doubles match. Moments later, graduate student Makayla Mills and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch secured the doubles point as the duo defeated No. 42 Shaw/Parra Romero (6-3), marking their highest-ranked win of the season.
Doubles Dominance
The Demon Deacons have remained steady in doubles matches this season, as they have gone 37-16 in doubles play.
Despite losing their first match of the season on Friday, Zhang and Pate bounced back on Sunday afternoon to move to 15-1 this season. Blanch/Mills also moved up to 8-5 as a duo following their win against Florida State, while junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum now sit at 12-5 in dual match play.
Singles Success
Wake Forest has been solid in singles play this season, currently holding a 65-46 record in dual match action.
Carton leads the Demon Deacons with 12 victories on the season, including an impressive 11 victories at the first singles position. Tannenbaum has had an impressive freshman campaign for the Demon Deacons, having recorded 11 wins this season. Pate and sophomore Sankavi Gownder also have double-digit victories in singles action, while Blanch currently holds a 7-6 record.
Deacs in the ITA Rankings
The Demon Deacons are ranked No. 34 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, as announced by the league this past Tuesday. The Deacs hold a 14-10 record and are one of 10 Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked inside the top-50.
Carton is the only Demon Deacon ranked in the latest ITA singles poll, as the Locust, N.J., native currently sits at No. 69. Meanwhile, Blanch and Mills jumped back into the ITA doubles rankings as they are now ranked at No. 58 following their ranked-win over the weekend.

Scouting the Opposition
Stanford heads into Winston-Salem ranked at No. 29 by the ITA after losing both their matches against North Carolina and Duke last weekend, including a narrow 4-3 loss to the Blue Devils.
The Cardinal are led by two of the top-10 players in the country in senior Connie Ma and freshman Valerie Glozman. In her first season of collegiate tennis, Glozman currently sits at No. 8 in the latest ITA rankings while holding a 13-3 record this spring. Meanwhile, Ma sits at No. 10 after having gone a perfect 13-0 during dual match play. Glozman and Ma are also ranked together in doubles at No. 27, with the duo holding a 12-6 record together.
California is coming into Winston-Salem ranked at No. 18 in the latest ITA rankings. After starting the conference schedule 8-0, the Golden Bears dropped back-to-back matches this weekend to the Tar Heels and Blue Devils, moving them to 11-6 on the season.
The Golden Bears have two doubles pairings ranked inside the top-25 in the most recent ITA poll. Senior Jessica Alsola and sophomore Mao Mushika are the highest ranked duo, currently sitting at No. 10 with a 10-4 overall record. Meanwhile, Mushika and senior Katja Wiersholm are ranked at No. 25.
