
Deacs Travel to Sunshine State for Final ACC Road Matches

The Demon Deacons take on Miami on Friday before facing off against Florida State on Sunday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Heading on the road for the final time this season, the No. 36 Wake Forest women's tennis team are set to travel to the Sunshine state for its final ACC road matches against No. 71 Miami and No. 75 Florida State.
The Demon Deacons open their road trip against the Hurricanes on Friday, with first serve scheduled for noon. All matches will be streamed live via Playsight, while live scores will be updated throughout the afternoon here.
Wake Forest closes out its road schedule against the Seminoles on Sunday at noon. The match against Florida State will be live streamed via Track Tennis, while live scores will be updated here.

Wake Forest closed out its non-conference slate with a 4-3 victory over No. 40 Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons got out to a hot start, as graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate cruised to a 6-1 victory at third doubles over Nakano/Xi, before junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum clinched the doubles match with a 6-2 victory against Abbas/Aranda at first doubles.
After Charlotte picked up three-consecutive wins in singles play, Carton and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch closed out the match with back-to-back, three-set wins at first and second singles to win the match. Blanch, who dropped the first set of her match, battled back to defeat Sara Suchankova (3-6, 6-2, 7-5) to tie the match at 3-3, before Carton clinched the victory by defeating Ni Xi 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, on court one.
Tannenbaum also picked up a win in singles play to put the Deacs up 2-0 in the match, as the Commack, N.Y., native came away with a straight-set victory over Shona Nakano at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Doubles Dominance
The Demon Deacons have remained steady in doubles matches this season, as they have gone 35-13 in doubles play.
Zhang and Pate continued their excellent season as they extended their undefeated season to 14-0 with their victory against Charlotte. Meanwhile, Carton and Tannenbaum improved to 12-4 as Blanch and graduate student Makayla Mills remained at 7-4 as a duo.
Singles Success
Wake Forest has been solid in singles play this season, currently holding a 65-39 record in dual match action.
Carton leads the Demon Deacons with 12 victories on the season, including an impressive 11 victories at the first singles position. Tannenbaum continued her impressive freshman campaign as she improved to 11-6 following Wednesday's victory. Pate and sophomore Sankavi Gownder also have double-digit victories in dual match play this season with 10 victories each. Meanwhile, Blanch improved to 7-5 following her three-set victory on Wednesday, with all seven of her victories coming at the second singles spot. Zhang rounds out the Demon Deacon lineup with a 3-4 record this season.

The Demon Deacons are ranked No. 36 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, as announced by the league this past Tuesday. The Deacs hold a 13-8 record and are one of 10 Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked inside the top-50.
Carton is the only Demon Deacon ranked in the latest ITA singles poll, as the Locust, N.J., native currently sits at No. 62. The junior is also ranked in doubles alongside Tannenbaum, with the duo being ranked at No. 78.

Wyshner's Winning Ways
After becoming the first Demon Deacon head coach to surpass 200 wins in program history on Sunday, head coach Jeff Wyshner secured his 201st win at Wake Forest on Wednesday against Charlotte. Wyshner, who is in his 15th season with the Deacs, became the all-time winningest head coach earlier this season.
Under Wyshner's leadership, the Demon Deacons have amassed a 201-187 overall record and have made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wyshner has also helped produce three All-Americans during his 15-year tenure, including Singles All-American Carolyn Campana (2021), and Doubles All-Americans MC Meredith and Eliza Omiru (2020) and Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth (2022).
Scouting the Opposition
Miami comes into Friday ranked No. 71 in the latest ITA poll while sitting at 8-9 following a four-match losing streak. Despite their record, the Hurricanes have been solid on their home court, with seven of their eight wins coming at home.
Miami is led by graduate student Alexa Noel, who is currently ranked No. 39 in the country while holding a perfect 10-0 record at the first singles position in dual match play. Joining Noel in the rankings is junior Raquel Gonzalez, who sits at No. 96 with an 8-4 record on the year. Gonzalez is also ranked in doubles alongside junior Xinyi Nong as the duo are No. 55 with an 8-3 record.
Florida State, who currently sits at No. 75 in the ITA rankings with a 12-6 record, have done most of their damage this season in doubles play, as the team is a combined 31-9 in doubles matches. Leading the charge for Florida State is the 42nd ranked duo of senior Maria Juliana Parra Romero and sophomore Eva Shaw, who are 11-1 in dual match play while playing at the first doubles slot. Meanwhile, junior Millie Bissett and sophomore Laura Putz are also ranked, coming in at No. 69 with a 6-2 record.
In singles action, the Seminoles are led by Shaw, who leads the team with nine victories on the season, including a 5-2 record against conference opponents. Sitting just behind Shaw on the Florida State leaderboard is sophomore Maelie Monfils, who has racked up eight wins while going 7-2 in her last 10 matches.
