The Demon Deacons will look to bounce back next weekend as they take on Stanford and California to close out the regular season.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 36 Wake Forest women's tennis team closed its final road trip of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 75 Florida State, 4-1.

The Demon Deacons (14-10, 3-7 ACC) took the early advantage in the match as they claimed the doubles point following back-to-back wins on courts one and three.

After the Seminoles (13-7, 4-6 ACC) struck first in doubles with a victory on court two, graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate responded with a 6-3 victory over Monfils/Putz at third doubles. Moments later, graduate student Makayla Mills and redshirt sophomore clinched the point with a ranked-win over No. 42 Shaw/Parra Romero at first doubles (6-3).

With Sunday's results, the Deacs are now a combined 37-16 in doubles matches this season, with Zhang and Pate leading the way with a 15-1 record as a duo. Meanwhile, Blanch and Mills now sit at 8-6 following their highest-ranked victory this season, with their only other ranked win coming during Wake Forest's victory over Clemson.

In singles play, Blanch and junior Nevena Carton picked up the only sets of the match for the Deacs, with both claiming the first set in a tiebreaker in their respective matches. Carton was locked into a tight battle with Eva Shaw at first singles when the match was clinched (7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 0-1), while Blanch was tied in the final set at second singles against Millie Bissett, seeing her match go unfinished, 7-6 (7-0), 1-6, 3-3.

From Coach Wyshner
"Proud of the way we fought this weekend. The Florida road trip is a really hard one and it was made even more difficult by having so many players out or not at 100 percent. That said, we may have lost the match today partly because of what it took to win two matches last Wednesday and Sunday. It will be nice to get home, rest, and get ready for Stanford on Friday." - head coach Jeff Wyshner
