Wake Forest closes the regular season at Louisville this weekend.
HIGH POINT, N.C. – In the final midweek of the 2025 season, the Wake Forest baseball team dropped a 7-5 contest against High Point at Truist Point on Tuesday night.
Right fielder Matt Scannell recorded his 17th hit in the last 10 games, launching the second pitch of the ballgame over the wall in right for his eighth home run of the season and second in the last week.
Shortstop Marek Houston collected his 21st multi-hit game of the year, including slapping an RBI single into left in the fifth inning.
Junior right-handed pitcher Logan Lunceford made the start on the mound for the Demon Deacons (34-18), tossing 4.0 innings of two-hit, one-run ball. The Harrah, Okla. native struck out five Panthers (37-15), including back-to-back strikeouts looking to escape a jam in the third inning.
Reliever Luke Schmolke retired all three batters he faced in the fifth inning on just 11 pitches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FROM COACH WALTER
"Free passes hurt us in that game. In the two innings where they scored three each, we had a groundball that we didn't make a play on, followed by a walk. Give credit to [High Point], they got two big hits after that, so we gave up a three-spot that we didn't need to give up. And then, the second three-spot they got, the same thing – walk, walk, and they got a big hit. So first and second, with nobody out, they came through twice with hits. We had first and second with nobody out twice, and didn't have anything to show for it, and that was the difference in the game. I was really happy with our at-bats in the eighth and the ninth innings. I thought we battled. We hit every ball on the screws there in the last inning. Unfortunately, they found gloves. If we have those kinds of at-bats this weekend against Louisville that we had in the eighth and the ninth, we're going to be in good shape, and I like our chances. Looking forward to getting back on the field on Thursday." - Head Coach Tom Walter
