The Nashville native brings depth to Wake Forest’s core of middle blockers.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest volleyball has added Sanaa Williams to its fall 2025 roster, announced by head coach Jeff Hulsmeyer and the program on Tuesday.
Playing as a middle blocker, Williams spent the last three seasons at Mississippi State. She will have two years of eligibility remaining upon her arrival to DEACTOWN as a redshirt junior on the roster.
"Sanaa is a great fit for Wake Forest!" said Hulsmeyer. "She is completing her undergraduate degree in three years and is a great student. On the court, Sanaa has played at the Power Four level in the SEC, and didn't start playing volleyball until she was 15 years old. With two seasons remaining, her best volleyball is in front of her and I'm looking forward to those two very successful seasons here at Wake Forest. She has a very supportive and competitive family that has emphasized excellence in her from a young age. I can't be more pleased that she has agreed to join us and I look forward to seeing what she can do over the next two years."
Sanaa Williams | 6-2 | Middle Blocker | Nashville, Tenn. | Mississippi State
After taking a redshirt year for her freshman campaign at Mississippi State, Williams went on to appear in 35 combined matches across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. This past fall saw her rank fifth on the roster in blocks (34.0) while also totaling 33 kills and 25 digs in 12 matches played. Against ACC foe Notre Dame on Sept. 8, the Nashville native finished with a season-best eight blocks and six digs.
In Williams' first playing year during fall 2023, she established herself as one of the Bulldogs' top defenders – recording 71 total blocks to rank third on the squad. In the team's season opener versus Eastern Kentucky (Aug. 25), Williams notched a season-high seven blocks. She went on to tally six blocks on three separate occasions. Offensively, she plugged in 51 kills for the year.
Off the court, Williams earned three consecutive nods to the SEC Honor Roll from 2022-24 while also being named the recipient of the 2024-25 Newsom Award, given to the top Mississippi State scholar-athletes.
Why Wake?
"I chose Wake Forest because I know I can continue growing here to accomplish my goals. I believe the coaches have a great vision for the program and I am excited to be a part of it. I also know Wake is going to set me up very well academically for my future plans.
"I want to reach my full potential, athletically, and help the team make history at Wake. I also want to excel in the classroom and earn my master's degree." – Sanaa Williams
