No. 16 Demon Deacons Set for ACC Clash with Virginia Tech

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Seeking its second conference victory of the season, the No. 16 Wake Forest women's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) are primed for a matchup with the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4-2, 0-2-0 ACC) this Thursday, Sept 18, at Spry Stadium.
The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACCNX with live stats available here.

Last Time Out
- The No. 18-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) completed the non-conference portion of the 2025 season with a 6-2 victory over USC Upstate (3-4-1, 0-0-0 Big South) on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium.
- After spending the early minutes of the match in the attacking third, the Deacs registered three shots in a 13-second span in the sixth minute, the final of which was saved by the Spartans' keeper.
- A great individual effort from freshman Allie Flanagan put the Deacs in front 1-0 in the seventh minute, as she pushed inward on the Spartan backline before letting one go from the top of the 18.
- The goal was Flanagan's fourth of the season – matching the team lead with sophomore Lola Ressler.
- USC Upstate was able to counter with a goal of its own in the 14th minute.
- Sophomore Dempsey Brown hit a powerful attempt that rattled the crossbar in the 21st minute.
- Wake Forest reclaimed the lead in the 26th minute, as freshman Kylie Maxwell took control of a blocked shot before beating the Spartan keeper to her left.
- With the goal, Maxwell became the first Demon Deacon with 10 points on the season (3 goals, 4 assists).
- USC Upstate once again drew even with a 31st-minute goal.
- The Deacs once again found themselves in front, as a perfectly placed ball into the box from Brown found junior Addison Roberts' head in the box before graduate Sophie Faircloth netted her sixth career goal.
- The goal was the Winston-Salem native's first since Sept. 9, 2021.
- Just five minutes later, Faircloth struck again off an inswinging cross from Sierra Sythe for her second-career brace.
- Wake Forest went into the halftime break leading 4-2 with significant advantages in shots (22-6), corners (7-3) and possession (74 percent).
- Maxwell took the first shot of the second half, a header that went wide of the frame.
- The Deacs' advantage grew to 5-2 in the 62nd minute, as Brooke Miller beat the Spartan defense before ripping a ball from the top of the 18 that hit the bottom of the crossbar and found its way past the keeper.
- The goal marked Miller's first as a Demon Deacon to go along with her four assists on the campaign.
- Just minutes later, freshman Alejandra Gomez registered her first collegiate goal with a long-distance blast from outside the 18.
- In total, 21 Demon Deacons contributed to the victory.
- Graduate student Victoria Coninck made her Wake Forest debut.

- The Demon Deacons currently rank 16th on the United Soccer Coaches Poll and 20th on TopDrawerSoccer.
- Through ten games of the season, redshirt sophomore Sierra Sythe has totaled five assists and is tied fifth in the ACC.
- Between the posts, redshirt sophomore Valentina Amaral leads the conference in shutouts per game and ranks fifth in the country with five clean sheets so far this season.
- The Deacs look for their first home victory against Virginia Tech since 2021.

Scouting the Hokies
- The Hokies are led by head coach Charles Adair, who enters his 15th season at the helm. During his time at Virginia Tech, Adair has guided the program to a 173-93-32 record.
- So far this season, the Hokies are 4-4-2, with a 2-2-1 record on the road.
- Virginia Tech's last result was a 0-1 loss at Louisville.
- Spearheading the offense is freshman Hannah Pachan, who leads the team with four goals and four assists.
- Pachan has started all ten games thus far this season and has scored a point in all but three appearances.
- Graduate student Lauren Hargrove has 34 saves in the net for Virginia Tech and recorded two shutouts so far in her 2025 campaign.
- She made a career-high seven saves in a 1-1 draw against the Liberty Flames on Aug. 28.
Series History vs. Virginia Tech
- The Demon Deacons are 8-10-3 against the Hokies and hold a 4-4-2 mark at home.
- The programs first met in 2000 at Spry Stadium, with Wake Forest taking the 5-1 victory.
- Wake Forest last faced the Hokies in Blacksburg on Sept. 29, 2023.
- The Deacons took a 2-0 victory with goals from ProDeacs Caiya Hanks and Emily Murphy.
