DURHAM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team fell at Duke, 80-44, Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
For the second consecutive game, the Demon Deacons (12-11, 2-9 ACC) were led by freshman guard Milan Brown who finished the game with a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with 13 points. This comes on the heels of a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds on Thursday night against Virginia.
Against the Blue Devils (16-6, 11-0 ACC), Brown had eight rebounds by the halftime break and came out of the locker room playing her best basketball of the afternoon, recording nine points and seven rebounds in the third quarter alone to achieve her third double-double of the season and her second of the week.
Brown's big day on the boards marked the most by any player in the Megan Gebbia era and the most by a Wake Forest player since Ivana Raca pulled down 19 rebounds in a victory at Virginia Tech on Jan. 17, 2021.
Brown led a strong rebounding effort by the Deacs on Sunday as Wake Forest ended the afternoon with a 41-40 advantage on the boards.
The Deacs forced the Blue Devils into 12 turnovers on Sunday, and have forced 10 or more takeaways 89 times in the last 92 games, a stretch dating back to January of 2022. Through 23 games, the Demon Deacons have forced 15.7 turnovers per game.
How It Happened
"We had a much better second half and were much more competitive in the final 20 minutes. Milan played really well tonight with a career-high 17 rebounds and Caitlyn played well too handling the pressure. We settled in and I was happy with how our bench contributed in different ways as well. We outrebounded them today which was a positive. We still need to do better around the basket and we will continue to work on that. Our communication was better in the second half and we have to use the positives going into the next game against SMU." - Megan Gebbia
Up Next
The Demon Deacons continue their road swing when the Demon Deacons travel to SMU Thursday night in Dallas.
