Behind a clutch three-set victory from Stefan Dostanic on court one with the eyes of the tennis world on him, the Wake Forest men's tennis team has claimed its second ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-3 victory over TCU inside the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas, Texas.
The Demon Deacons are one of 13 schools to have multiple ITA National Indoor Team Championship titles as well as one of six ACC schools to do so.
Wake Forest got off to a hot start on court one in doubles and didn't look back, as DK Suresh Ekambaram and Dostanic proved that they were one of the nation's best. The duo took down the then-reigning NCAA doubles champions Lui Maxted/Pedro Vives in dominant, 6-2 fashion.
After the Horned Frogs took the second doubles court, all eyes turned to court three where the graduate pair of Ioannis Xilas and Franco Capalbo battled TCU's Duncan Chan and Albert Pedrico Kravtsov. The Wake Forest pair remained calm, broke Kravtsov/Chan for the 7-5 win and secured the doubles point.
In singles, Wake Forest took four of six first sets and set the tone for the rest of the match. Luca Pow put Wake Forest up 2-0 after a strong 6-2, 6-3 win over Kravtsov on court six.
TCU took courts two and three and evened the match, but the Demon Deacons responded with a win on court four courtesy of Xilas. The Greek outlasted Chan in a set-tiebreak and defeated the Horned Frog, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9).
The match was once again leveled as the Horned Frogs claimed court five right before TCU's Jack Pinnington forced a third set in first singles.
The moment didn't phase the veteran Dostanic, as he broke Pinnington right away and held serve until the Demon Deacons were crowned national champions.
