WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's tennis (5-4) fell to Charlotte (7-3) by a score of 4-0 on Friday night. This is the Demon Deacons' first home loss of the season after starting 5-0. After sweeping the doubles session, the 49ers took the first three singles matches of the night to clinch the victory.
The Deacs' top duo of Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum fell in first doubles to Charlotte's nationally ranked pairing of No. 20 Ni Xi and Sara Suchankova. Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet then lost third doubles, and the first point of the evening went the way of the 49ers. In singles, Carton, Evie Oxford and Sankavi Gownder were all able to win a set, but none got the chance to play out their deciding third sets. Charlotte picked up the first singles point of the match by way of a Tannenbaum retirement. Blanch and Heidi Bulger dropped straight sets, and the 49ers sealed the 4-0 victory. Wake Forest now leads the all-time series, 10-1.

From Coach Wyshner
"Credit to a very good Charlotte team for playing really well tonight. They came out and played a good doubles point, and while our doubles is getting a little better, it still isn't where it needs to be. Losing doubles points in what is going to be a really close match gives the other team a lot of momentum. In singles, we were battling everywhere. I think we felt good that the three matches that were in the third set would have gone our way, but we couldn't find that one other point from the doubles or from the other singles match to give us that chance. We are definitely fighting right now, and we'll have to do that tomorrow and Sunday!Up Next
