The Demon Deacons defeated the Tribe of William & Mary on Saturday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest (6-4) cruised to a bounce-back victory against William & Mary (6-2) on Saturday. Wake Forest won an intense doubles point, then proceeded to roll the Tribe, 5-1, in singles play. It is the Deacs' sixth home victory this season, tied for fourth-best in the ACC.
This was the second of three matches this weekend. After losing to Charlotte, 4-0, last night, the Deacs won today and will now prepare for App State on Sunday morning. Wake Forest increases its winning streak against William & Mary to five, and now leads the all-time series 25-17.
The Deacs got off to a great start in doubles thanks to Nevena Carton and Krystal Blanch, who were paired together for the first time all year. They took down William & Mary's top pairing of Tilda Larsson and Francesca Davis, 6-3. William & Mary responded, taking the match on court two, 6-2. It was Heidi Bulger and Aubrey Nisbet who produced the heroics, winning their match, 6-3, to secure the opening point for the Deacs.
In singles, it was all Wake Forest, all day. Carton, Gownder, Oxford and Bulger all won in straight sets to ensure a Wake Forest victory. Blanch then earned a hard-fought, three-set victory (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), while Nisbet fell just short against Ale Gonzalez-Galino in a third-set tiebreaker for William & Mary's lone point of the match.

How it Happened
From Coach Wyshner
"Good response from the group from yesterday to today. We're improving doubles; I don't think Nev and Krystal have ever played doubles together, even in practice, but they did a great job after we decided to sit Kady today. Our singles were solid at every spot. Courts two-through-six all had moments where the opponent was on a bit of a roll and making things hard on us, and we handled those moments the best we have all year. Excited for one more home match tomorrow morning."
Up Next
The Demon Deacons will wrap up their three-game homestand with an intrastate battle against App State. Wake Forest leads the all-time series 14-1. The two programs last met in 2017; Wake Forest won 6-1. The Mountaineers are 1-3 on the road this season.
