Hansen, Whaley Shatter School Records on Final Day of Wake Forest Invitational

Junior Rocky Hansen logged a time of 3:35.75 to set a new school record in the men’s 1500 meters, while senior Elizabeth Whaley recorded a time of 4:09.78, breaking the previous school record in the women’s 1500 meters by over four seconds.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Highlighted by a pair of new school records in the men's and women's 1,500 meters, the Wake Forest track and field team concluded the fourth annual Wake Forest Invitational on Friday night at Kentner Stadium.
Senior Elizabeth Whaley finished her heat of the women's 1,500 meters in second place, recording a time of 4:09.78 to set a new school record by over four seconds. This marks the Cincinnati native's second school record across the indoor and outdoor seasons, after previously securing the program record in the women's mile at the ASICS Sound Invite during the indoor campaign.
Junior Rocky Hansen secured the second school record of the night later in the evening as he registered a time of 3:35.75 to finish fifth in his heat of the men's 1,500 meters. In addition to setting a new program record, the Hendersonville, N.C., native's time currently ranks as the fifth-fastest time in NCAA Division I this season.
Two other Deacs jumped into the top-10 in school history in both the men's and women's 1,500 meters. After breaking the school record in the women's 800 meters on Thursday night, freshman Natalia Issler logged a time of 4:19.96 to move into 10th all-time in program history in the 1,500 meters. On the men's side, junior Wes Shipsey clocked a personal-best time of 3:41.26 to push himself into ninth all-time.
Junior Angelina Perez secured the second-fastest time in Wake Forest history in the women's 5,000 meters, posting a time of 15:32.20.
Freshman Aurelien Radja and senior Bruce Gilmore closed competition for the Demon Deacons by posting personal-best times in the men's 5,000 meters. Radja clocked a time of 13:38.78, while Gilmore ended with a time of 13:48.82.
Earlier in the day, junior Charlie Sprott clocked a time of 3:42.69, while senior Lucas Guerra crossed the line in 3:44.10 in their heats of the 1,500 meters. Meanwhile, sophomore Amy Weybrecht notched a personal-best time of 4:20.79 in her heat of the 1500m.
The Demon Deacons also excelled in the field events on Friday afternoon with four top-five finishes across the day of competition.
Sophomore Rosalind Gergely kicked off the final day for the Deacs by securing a first-place finish in the women's javelin, recording a personal-best throw of 52.99 meters on her final attempt. Graduate student Nick Masterman added a first-place finish in the men's javelin moments later after logging a career-best mark of 64.54 meters on his first throw.
Sophomore Jazmine Thompson continued the momentum by placing third in the women's discus, recording a personal-best throw of 50.48 meters to move into fourth in program history.
Senior Casey Sullivan closed out the field series for Wake Forest as she added a personal-best throw of 15.73 meters to place third in the shot put and jump into fourth on the all-time program leaderboard in the event.
