The Demon Deacons will battle the Virginia Cavaliers tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the conference crown.
CARY, N.C. – For the first time since 2019, the top-seeded and No. 7 Wake Forest men's tennis team is headed back to the ACC Championship match after a dominant 4-0 victory over fourth-seeded Stanford on Saturday at Cary Tennis Park.
The win sends the Demon Deacons (29-3) to their 11th conference final in program history and marks their seventh appearance under head coach Tony Bresky. Wake Forest previously reached five consecutive championship matches from 2015-19.
The Deacs will face Virginia at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the match set to stream live on ACCNX. The two teams met earlier this season in Winston-Salem, where Wake Forest secured a 4-2 victory.
Since 2007, the ACC title has been dominated by Wake Forest and Virginia, with one of the two programs winning every year except the last two, when Florida State (2024) and Stanford (2025) snapped the streak.
Wake Forest will be aiming for its fourth ACC title and Bresky's fourth at the helm, having guided the program to championships in 2016, 2018 and 2019. He also enters Sunday one win shy of 400 for his Wake Forest career and looks to add to his 12 trophies with the program.
A victory tomorrow would give the Deacs their 30th win of the season, marking the third straight 30-win campaign and the seventh in program history.
Saturday's defeat of Stanford also served as redemption for Wake Forest's only conference loss of the season two weeks ago in California.
After sweeping all 13 doubles points during regular-season conference play and doing so again in the quarterfinals, Wake Forest stayed dominant in doubles with victories on courts two and three to claim the opening point. The Deacs have now taken a 1-0 lead in 21 straight matches and for the 29th time this season.
Less than 20 minutes into doubles, freshman Aryan Shah and junior Luca Pow bounced back in strong fashion with a win over Banerjee/Leach, 6-0, on court three. The pair improved to 5-1 together after suffering their first loss last weekend against NC State. The victory also marked the 90th career doubles win for Pow, moving him closer to climbing further up Wake Forest's all-time leaderboard.
Clinching the opening point, freshman Mees Rottgering and sophomore Kacper Szymkowiak continued their unbeaten season with a win over Godsick/Rivera, 6-3, on court two. The pair improved to 11-0 together this season after earning another victory in the quarterfinal round. Their consistency has been a driving force in Wake Forest's doubles success, including a dominant ACC campaign.
Once again, Wake Forest set the tone early in singles by taking the first set on four of the six courts and closing them out on four, five and six.
Returning to the singles lineup for the first time since March 22, Szymkowiak picked up where he left off as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jagger Leach on court six. The transfer is now 5-1 this campaign and has not dropped a set in his last three matches.
Joaquin Guilleme kept his momentum rolling with a win over Alex Chang, 6-1, 7-5, on court five. After picking up a victory in the quarterfinals, the sophomore secured his team-leading 22nd singles win of the spring while continuing his dominant run through conference and postseason play. Guilleme has been one of Wake Forest's most consistent performers, now with just three losses on the season.
Just seconds later, sophomore Charlie Robertson clinched a spot in the championship for the Demon Deacons with a win over No. 59 Hudson Rivera, 6-3, 6-4, on court four. The victory marked the 20th singles win of his Wake Forest career and third against a ranked opponent while improving his spring record to 8-3. Robertson's consistency in the middle of the lineup continues to provide a steady presence as Wake Forest pushes forward into postseason play.
Wins on the courts 4-6 once again showcased the depth of this Demon Deacons squad. Bresky's men hold a 62-10 combined record on those three lines since the start of the season.

From Coach Bresky
"From the first point in doubles, I thought our guys brought great energy and focus. We've talked all year about depth being a strength of this team, and to see courts four, five and six come through again says a lot about who we are. Now it's about carrying that same mindset into tomorrow and competing for a championship against a great Virginia team. I really appreciate our fans making the trip to Cary the last two days and hope to see them again tomorrow!" – Head coach Tony Bresky
