Andy Roland was named associate head coach of the Wake Forest women's tennis team in October 2018 after serving eight seasons as assistant coach. He enters his 16th year with the Old Gold and Black in 2025-26.

Roland began his collegiate coaching career alongside Wake's head coach Jeff Wyshner in 2008 at The University of Akron. In their 14 years together at Wake, Roland and Wyshner have put the program back into the national spotlight and have led the Deacs to nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

The Demon Deacons have seen notable success over the past six years, winning 20-plus matches twice while consistently being ranked inside of the top 25 nearly each season.

The Deacs recorded 15 wins throughout the 2025 spring season and have now earned double-digit victories in 11 consecutive seasons (excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 season). Two of the 15 victories came against ranked teams. Wake Forest also secured a victory over SMU in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Individually, the Demon Deacons were led by junior Nevena Carton, who led the team with 13 singles victories, including three victories over ranked opponents. In total, Wake Forest had four players record double-digit wins on the season. Meanwhile, Wake Forest dominated in doubles play, finishing the season with a 43-25 record and three duos recording double-digit victories. Leading the way for the Deacs was the duo of graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate, who secured a 17-4 record, including starting the season 15-0.

Wake Forest compiled 15 wins throughout the 2024 spring. Seven of the 15 victories happened over ranked teams, with three coming against teams inside the top 30. Individually, the Deacs were led by senior captain Casie Wooten, who finished with a team-best 15 wins in dual play (22 overall). The Torrance, California, native also represented at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championships for the second year in a row. In total, Wake Forest had six players record double-digit singles victories in dual play for the 2024 campaign.

The Deacons tallied an 18-14 overall record in 2023, including five wins over Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents and seven over nationally-ranked programs. The team played some of its best at home, going 12-4 in 16 appearances at its tennis center. During the postseason, Wake Forest advanced to the ACC tournament's quarterfinal round for the seventh-straight year and also appeared in the NCAA tournament for the seventh year in a row, along being being the 22nd throughout program history. For the singles and doubles section of the NCAA tournament, the program had Casie Wooten and Anna Brylin/Brooke Killingsworth represent in the event, being a third consecutive year of having three or more players earn bids. The Deacs held a national ranking all spring long, making its way into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) top 25 on four separate occasions. Additionally, Wake Forest won the 75th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic championship in Montgomery, Alabama in late-February, and four roster members recorded double-figures in solo wins.

In their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament during the 2022 spring campaign, the Demon Deacons reached the Round of 32, defeating nationally-ranked Northwestern, 4-2, in the opening round of the tournament. Additionally, for the second time in program history, Wake Forest had five individuals selected to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships field. Carolyn Campana earned an at-large bid to compete in the 64-player singles draw for the second time in her career. Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth, as well as Samantha Martinelli and Casie Wooten, partook in the doubles section.

During 2021, Roland played a role in helping Carolyn Campana become one of the top-ranked singles players in the nation. The Deacs' No. 1 rose to as high as No. 12 in the ITA singles rankings and earned a national seed at the NCAA Singles Championship. It marked the highest individual ranking for a Wake Forest player since the 2004-05 season.

Before the 2019-20 season was shortened due to COVID-19, the Deacs were well on their way to their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament. Wake Forest, who was as high as No. 9 in the country, finished the year with its highest final ITA ranking in the Wyshner era at No. 16 and was on pace to potentially host the first two rounds in the NCAA Tournament.

The doubles duo of MC Meredith and Eliza Omirou helped lead the way out of the No. 1 spot. They finished the season as the No. 9 ranked pairing in the country, earning ITA All-American honors. They captured five ranked wins with four coming against top-25 doubles pairings in 2019-20.

One of the highlights of the 2019-20 campaign came when the Deacs captured the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic in February, defeating No. 5 Princton in the final.

Roland was recognized as the top assistant coach in the ITA Carolina Region in May 2015 after helping Wake Forest to its best win total since the 2009 season with a 14-13 record.

Under Roland and head coach Jeff Wyshner, the team improved again in 2016. The team got off to its first-ever 9-0 start and finished 19-10 overall and 7-7 in the ACC. The Deacs’ 19 wins were their most since 2002 and their seventh-place ACC finish and No. 29 final national ranking were their best since 2007. The team made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 after getting up to No. 14 in the national rankings during the regular season.

Roland has helped a number of Demon Deacons record individual accomplishments. He helped guide Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert to a No. 7 national doubles ranking and a second-round appearance in the 2011 NCAA Doubles Championships and also helped lead Martina Pavelec into the top-25 in the singles rankings in 2011. Additionally, he helped Kimmy Guerin back-to-back All-ACC honors in 2015 and 2016 and a final singles ranking of No. 67 in the nation in 2016. As a junior, Guerin reached as high as No. 44 and went on to become the first Demon Deacon in five years to earn a spot in the NCAA Singles Championships, showing the work Roland had done with her in a short period of time. Roland also helped groom Emma Davis into a multi-time All-ACC selection including earning First Team honors as a junior in 2018.

During the 2014 season, Roland helped freshmen Luisa Fernandez and Samantha Asch reach No. 50 in the doubles rankings as they anchored the No. 2 position for the Demon Deacons, finishing with a 21-8 record together, the most wins by a doubles team since Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz also had 21 in 2003.

His talent evaluation skills paid off in recruiting as Wake Forest's 2013 incoming class was ranked as the eighth-best in the country, coming on the heels of the 2012 class that was 25th nationally by the Tennis Recruiting Network. Perhaps the best show of his talent evaluation came when the 2015 Demon Deacon class was ranked No. 7 in the country by Tennis Recruiting Network, marking the highest ranking in program history.

The 2015-16 rookie class paid immediate dividends, producing 54 dual-match singles wins, all at the top four positions. The Deacs add their fifth-consecutive top-25 recruiting class in 2016-17 as Lexi Franco and Chandler Carter join the fold.

Roland joined the Wake Forest women's tennis staff as an assistant coach after serving in the same capacity under Wyshner at University of Akron. Roland also spent two months as the interim women's tennis coach at Akron.

Roland joined the Zips coaching staff as an assistant coach while working at Towpath Tennis Center in Akron. While at Akron, Roland worked extensively with Zips player Zara Harutyunyan, helping her become the first-ever freshman to win the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year award. In his last season with the Zips, Akron started the year 15-0 en route to finishing 19-3 and earning a second-place finish in the MAC.

Roland earned numerous honors while playing collegiately at Glendale Community College, being named an All-American and receiving the ITA Player to Watch Award in 1999. He was named the Western State Conference Player of the Year in 1999 and 2001, and was also awarded the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award in 2001.

After receiving his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Cal Poly Pomona in 2005, Roland played on the professional circuit, recording a notable singles win over Sam Querrey. His younger sister Jessica Roland-Rosario has competed in the Fed Cup for Puerto Rico.

Roland and his wife, Amber, reside in Winston-Salem with their son, Austin, who was born in May 2014 and daughter, who was born in September 2019. Andy is the son of George and Nayda Roland, who currently reside in Hollywood, Calif.
