Track Teams Compete In Duke Invitational

DURHAM, NC- Sophomore Janelle Kraus (Shelter Island, NY) finished second in the 3,000 meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:36.16 at the Duke Invitational in Durham, NC over the weekend. Both the Wake Forest men's and women's track & field teams competed in the meet.
Another top-10 finisher for the women was junior Becky Pollock (Albany, NY) who placed eighth in the 5,000 meter run with a time 17:39.38. The event marked the first time that Pollock has competed in the 5,000 meter run this season.
Freshman Summer Shaw (Huntington Beach, CA) recorded her best vault of the season in the pole vault. Her vault of 3.00 meters gave her a seventh place finish at the meet. In another field event, Tasha Pickney recorded a javelin throw of 36.58 meters to place sixth.
On the men's side, senior Nolan Swanson (Sherman, NY) finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:49.88. Sophomore Christian Laugen (Spokane, WA) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.83.
Freshman Ryan Turner (Spokane, WA) competed in the pole vault and finished fifth after a vault of 4.55 meters.
Senior Jon Russell (Wakefield, MA) finished seventh in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:16.27. The time was over 26 seconds faster than the time he recorded two weeks earlier in the Wake Forest Relays in the same event. However, the time was well short of his personal best time of 13:57.81 that he ran in 1997.
Both teams will compete in the Charlotte Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte this weekend.
