WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jennifer Straub, the assistant women's track and field coach at Wake Forest for the past eight seasons, has resigned to become the Head Women's Track and Cross Country Coach at Davidson College.
The 35-year old Straub is a 1988 graduate of Wake Forest with a degree in English.
While coaching at Wake Forest, she was both a tactical and motivational leader, helping the Deacon women to two NCAA District III Championships and six NCAA appearances in cross country including a 15th-place finish at the 1998 championships.
Even with her coaching duties, Straub continues to train and compete and is a frequent winner of North Carolina road races.
As a Demon Deacon, Straub earned All-America honors in cross country as well as leading the Wake Forest team to a 10th-place finish at the 1987 NCAA Cross Country, its best ever. She also earned All-America honors at the University of Michigan as a freshman collegiate athlete.
She won two Atlantic Coast Championships at Wake Forest - the 1988 10,000 meters and the 1989 3,000 meters. Straub still holds the Wake Forest indoor records in the 3,000 meters and outdoor records in the 3,000 and 10,000 meters. During her career, she was twice named All-America and was a six-time All-ACC performer.
She is married to Tim Straub, the head men's golf coach at Davidson. The two were married in 1996 and have a two-year-old son, William.
