Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest senior midfielder and this year's ACC Co-Player of the Year Jemima Cameron has been named one of four nominees for the 2001-2002 Field Hockey Honda Award. The prestigious national honor is awarded annually to the athlete considered the top player in her respective sport.
In addition to being named ACC Co-Player of the Year, Cameron earned numerous other honors while leading the Demon Deacons to their second straight NCAA Final Four appearance. She was a 2001 STX/NFHCA South Regional All-American first team selection while also earning All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament team honors. Cameron was selected for the 2001 NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star game after scoring 10 goals, eight assists for a total of 28 points during the year. Cameron's success this season is even more impressive considering she underwent knee surgery in the preseason and returned to start every game of the 2001 campaign.
The other three nominees for the 2001 field hockey award are Ilvy Friebe from Princeton, Maryland's Autumn Welsh and Old Dominion's Adrienne Yoder. The winner for field hockey, after nationwide balloting, will become a nominee for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year. The award will be presented at the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Banquet, to be held June 17, 2002 in Dallas during the NACDA convention.
The Honda Awards Program will donate $1,000 to the women's athletic fund of each nominee's university. The winner's university will receive $5,000.
