Men's Team Finishes Fifth, Women Eighth At ACC Championships

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Wake Forest men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed in the 2001 ACC Championships Friday and Saturday at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The men's team finished in fifth place with 84.5 points and the women's squad took eighth place with 34 points. Clemson won the men's championship and North Carolina won the women's.

Garick Hill and Nathan Sisco won individual championships for the Demon Deacons. Hill, a junior from Advance, NC, won the 10,000-Meter Run with a time of 30:54.77 and Sisco, a redshirt-freshman from Lebanon, NJ, won the 1,500- Meter Run with a time of 3:47.19. Also earning All-ACC honors was J.T. Kuretich, the runner-up in the Decathlon, Paul Singleton, the runner-up in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 1:49.83, Josh Buffolino, who placed third in the 1,500-Meter Run with a time of 3:49.71 and Sara Day, who took third in the 5,000-Meter Run with a time of 16:37.75. Kuretich, a junior transfer from Penn State, broke the school record in the Decathlon with a NCAA provisional qualifying score of 7,340.

Another school record that fell over the weekend was the Women's Shot Put mark, which Sandra Jenkins broke with her throw of 45'8 1/2". Jamie Grayzer led the Demon Deacons in the Heptathlon, finishing fourth with 4,604 points. Nikeya Green took fourth place in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 2:08.68 and was followed by Summer Shaw, who finished in fifth place with a 2:09.58. Kelly Brady took fifth place in the 1,500-Meter Run with a time of 4:30.21.

The Demon Deacons will return to action next weekend when they travel to Philadelphia, PA, to compete in the Penn Relays April 26-28. Complete results from the ACC Championships are available at www.theacc.com
