Green, Men's DMR Provisionally Qualify At Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Nikeya Green (So., Woodbridge, VA) was the third collegian to cross the finish line in the 800m with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:08.48 at the Penn State National Open this past weekend. The Demon Deacons won the men's Distance Medley Relay with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:44.13. Wake Forest employed its defending ACC Championship DMR team - as Nathan Sisco (So., Lebanon, NJ) led off the relay, Ryan Hamilton (Sr., Greenville, SC) ran the second leg, Paul Singleton (Jr., Greenville, SC) took the third and Chris Estwanik (Sr., Dublin, OH) finished as the anchor.
Sandra Jenkins (Sr., Wytheville, VA) broke her own school record in the Shot Put with a mark of 45-2.5. Carol Merritt (So., Raleigh, NC) won the 400m with a time of 56.44 and took fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.58. Shauna Danos (So., Groton, MA) placed ninth in the 800m with a time of 2:14.61. Wake Forest women's Distance Medley Relay team took sixth place with a time of 11:53.88. Jill Kovalcik (Jr., Shiner, TX) cleared 11-00.25 to tie for sixth place in the Pole Vault. Jen Leesman (Fr., Cincinnati, OH) set a career best in the Shot Put with a mark of 42-6. Jill Miller (Fr., Dublin, OH) ran a 9:53.15 in the 3,000m - 29 seconds faster than her previous time.
Singleton was the runner-up in the 800m with a career-best time of 1:51.06 and Estwanik was the runner-up in the 3,000m with a career-best time of 8:07.57. Cliff Neal (Sr., Winston-Salem, NC) finished fourth in the 35-pound Weight Throw with a mark of 57-2.25. Michael Altieri (Sr., Sacramento, CA) placed fourth in the Mile with a time of 4:11.39, Sisco finished fifth with a time of 4:11.95 and Kevin Jones (Fr., Sumter, SC) took eighth with a time of 4:13.08. Luke Orman (So., Goode, VA) placed 11th in the Long Jump with a mark of 22-8 and Fabian Davis (Jr., Greenville, SC) took 14th with a mark of 22-0.25. Davis also picked up a sixth place finish in the Triple Jump with a mark of 46-7.5. Tom Tymann reached 48-8.75 in the Shot Put to place 11th. Branston Williams (Sr., Wexford, PA) came in 15th in the 500m with a time of 1:06.47. Dave Barrett (So., Londonderry, NH) finished 11th in the 3,000m with a time of 8:28.79, Brian Smith (Fr., Belmont, MI) took 18th with a time of 8:37.98 and Andrew Ice (Fr., Spokane, WA) placed 19th with a time of 8:41.21. John Stone (Sr., Linwood, NJ) ran a 7.07 to tie for 18th place in the 60-Meter Dash preliminaries and he took 10th place in the 200m with a time of 22.11. Hamilton finished 25th in the 200m with a time of 22.71 and 18th in the 400m with a time of 49.68.
Meanwhile, at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, CO, Anne Bersagel (Fr., Greeley, CO) raced to a third place finish in the Mile with a time of 5:08.07. Jamie Grayzer (So., Bethel Park, PA) took fourth in the Pentathlon with a score of 3130 and Rachel Burns (Sr., West Union, SC) finished eighth with a score of 2678. Michael Eskind competed in the men's Pentathlon, but had to pull out with an injury.
