The Wake Forest track and field team announced the signing of two standout track and field athletes on Friday. Diane Anderson, a senior sprinter at Mitchell High in Colorado Springs, CO, and Michelle Sikes, a senior distance runner at Lakewood High in Lakewood, OH, have signed letters of intent to compete for the Demon Deacons next year.
"We are ecstatic to have Diane join the squad and expect her to make an immediate impact on the program. Diane is one of the best seniors in the country. When you get a commitment of Diane's caliber, it shows that we are one of the top programs in the nation," stated assistant track coach Tom Fish.
"We are excited to add Michelle to our team. She is an excellent fit for Wake Forest. She has received numerous academic awards as well as running awards. We expect she will step into a scoring position as a freshman," stated head coach Annie Bennett.
Before transferring to Mitchell High, Anderson won the state championship at Denver East High in 2002. She earned Junior All-American honors in the 400m as well. Sikes, a two-time Footlocker Cross Country finalist, is a three-time state champion, earning the honor once in cross country and twice for track and field.
