
Merritt ACC Champion in 400m, Green All-ACC in 800m

CHAPEL HILL, NC - Wake Forest had some quality individual performances in the second and final day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on North Carolina University's Dick Taylor Track in Eddie Smith Field House. The Wake Forest men's team finished in sixth place with 60 points and the Demon Deacon women's squad took eighth place with 36.5 points.
Carol Merritt (So., sprints, Raleigh, NC) won the women's 400m with a NCAA provisional qualifying and school-record breaking time of 54.82 for her first ACC Championship. Merritt was only two one-hundredths of a second behind the winner of the women's 200m, finishing second with another school-record breaking time of 24.28, earning All-ACC honors. Nathan Sisco (So., distance, Lebanon, NJ), defended his title in the men's Mile Run by winning the ACC Championship for the second consecutive year with a time of 4:09.95. Chris Estwanik (Sr., middle distance, Dublin, OH) captured the ACC Championship in the men's 3,000m with a time of 8:11.82.
Nikeya Green (So., middle distance, Woodbridge, VA) earned All-ACC honors with a second place finish in the women's 800m, running an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:09.12. Michael Altieri (Sr., middle distance, Sacramento, CA) ran a 4:12.30 in the men's Mile Run to finish third place and earn All-ACC honors.
Fabian Davis (Jr., jumps, Greenville, SC) placed fourth in the men's Triple Jump with a career-best mark of 48-1.75. Sean Nagorny (Sr., middle distance, York, PA) captured fifth place in the men's 3,000m with a career-best time of 8:22.28. Wake Forest took fifth in the men's 4x400m Relay with a time of 3:22.14 and eighth in the women's 4x400m Relay with a time of 3:58.26. Cliff Neal (Sr., throws, Winston-Salem, NC) finished sixth in the men's Weight Throw with a mark of 59-5.
Clemson won the men's team championship with 132 points and Georgia Tech won the women's with a team score of 122. The Demon Deacons will return to action next weekend at Virginia Tech's Last Chance Meet to try to get some more individuals qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are March 8-9 in Fayetteville, AR.
