Burns And Haus Earn Post Graduate Scholarship

Rachel Burns, a senior on the Wake Forest women's track & field team and Maren Haus, a senior on the Wake Forest women's tennis team were two of 19 Atlantic Coast Conference scholar-athletes named recipients of the 2002 Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Awards on Wednesday. The scholarships are given to selected student-athletes who have academic work as full-time graduate students. Each recipient will receive $5,000 to use towards their graduate education.
Burns, a heptathlete from Walhalla, SC, was named a 2001 Academic All-American. Selected as the 2001 Wake Forest Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Burns is a member of the Dean's List at Wake Forest as well as the ACC Honor Roll. The school record holder in the indoor long jump with a mark of 16-9.75, Burns scored a career-high 4008 points in the Heptathlon at the 2001 ACC Championships. She also owns the fifth-best mark in school history in the high jump, clearing 5-4.25 in 2001.
Haus, who hails from Brielle, NJ, is a co-captain of the sixth-ranked Demon Deacon women's tennis team. Entering her final spring season as the 67th-ranked singles player in the nation, Haus is ninth in school history with 95 career singles victories and ranks 10th with 65 career doubles wins. A two-time All-ACC selection, Haus has been a member of the Dean's List every semester and the ACC Honor Roll every year of her collegiate career.
