Sherman Regionally Qualifies at Texas Relays

It was a productive weekend for the Wake Forest men's and women's outdoor track & field teams as the Demon Deacons were competing in various meets through out the country.
Austin, TX - Several Deacs traveled to Austin, TX to compete in the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Senior middle distance runner Anna Sherman captured sixth place in the 1,500M, running a regionally qualifying time of 4:25.76. The women's distance medley relay team ran an 11:31.91 for third place and Risa Rutland took 12th in the 5,000M with a time of 18:08.61.
Atlanta, GA - The majority of the Demon Deacon harriers were in action at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday at the George C. Griffin Track in Atlanta.
The Wake Forest women dominated the top-10 in the 5,000M, as Rachel Mistur took third with a time of 17:51.04, Danielle Coon in fifth with a time of 17:53.70, Denise Hefferin in seventh with a time of 18:01.38 and Caitlin Dempsey in eighth with a time of 18:47.28, while Elizabeth Hagood ran a 19:27.74 for 13th. Cassy Richards came in 16th in the 200M with a time of 24.75 and Jackie Muscente finished in 13th in the 400M Hurdles with a 1:05.64. Jill Kovalcik threw a 107-11 for ninth place in the Javelin, jumped 17-10.75 for 11th place in the Long Jump and placed 20th in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 14.87. The women's 4 x 400M relay ran a 3:59.93 for 11th place. Detra Chambers took 28th in the 100M with a time of 13.16 and 31st in the 200M with a time of 27.13. Geneva Long placed 31st in the 100M with a time of 13:54 and 32nd in the 200M with a time of 27:16. In the 1,500M, Catherine Fortin-Major captured fifth with a time of 4:36.93, Kara Mullin took ninth with a 4:42.55, Ashley Dunigan in 15th with a 4:48.10, Molly Nunn in 20th with a 4:54.75, Candy Hitchcock in 23rd with a 4:59.12 and Erin Keating in 30th with a 5:13.37. Jen Leesman threw a 39-00.25 for 14th place in the Shot Put.
For the men, Mike Altieri regionally qualified in the 1,500M with a time of 3:45.9 for second place. Also in the 1,500M, Brad Wharton took 10th with a 3:49.00 and Matt Busick finished 20th with a time of 3:58.25. Eric Seely took 11th in the 200M with a time of 21.70, while Willie Idlette ran a 22.24 for 23rd place. In the 800M, Paul Singleton placed 15th with a time of 1:53.37 and Westin Galloway finished 22nd with a time of 1:55.54. Raymond Harbert came in 24th in the 100M with a time of 11:28 and ran a 22.76 in the 200M for 27th. In the 5,000M, Jimmy Butler ran a 14:43.95 for second place, Brian Smith came in third with a time of 14:49.02, Sean Stevens in fifth with a 14:51.81 and Dave Barrett in sixth with a 14:52.46. Michael Eskind took seventh in the Long Jump, 10th in the Pole Vault, 14th in the Discus and 16th in the 100M Hurdles. The men's 4x100M relay team came in sixth, while the 4x400M relay team placed seventh. In the Shot Put, Tom Tymann finished sixth and Josh Carter came in 18th. Tymann also took eighth in the Discus. Adam Gabrault threw a 160-11 in the Hammer Throw for sixth place, while in the Javelin, Mike Haulk placed seventh with a 166-11 and Zach Hamilton came in 13th with a mark of 141-11.
