Green Qualifies For 800m Semifinals At NCAA Championships

Sacramento, Calif. - Nikeya Green, a middle distance runner on the Wake Forest women's track & field team, ran a time of 2:04.60 in the 800m preliminaries Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Sacramento State University. Green advances to the semifinals Thursday morning at 11:05 a.m. (PDT). The top three from each of the four heats, plus the next four best times advance to the semifinals Thursday morning at 11:05 a.m. and she was second in her heat with the fifth best time of the day.
A junior from Woodbridge, Va., Green is a three-time All-American and a three-time All-ACC selection. She owns the 11th best outdoor 800m time in the nation this season with her school-record-breaking 2:04.46 at the NCAA Regional Championships May 30.
The top three from each heat, plus the next two fastest times in the 800m semifinals Thursday will advance to the final, which is 8:20 p.m. on Saturday.
Anna Sherman and Anne Bersagel, the other two Demon Deacon competitors at the NCAA Championships, begin competition Thursday as Sherman will run in the 1,500m preliminaries at 7:00 p.m. and Bersagel will run in the 10,000m final at 9:00 p.m. Sherman owns the 18th best outdoor 1,500m time in the nation this season and Bersagel has the fourth best 10,000m time.
