Men's Golf Tied For Third At The Ridges

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Wake Forest men??s golf team is in a three-way tie for third after one day of competition at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. The 18-team field was scheduled to play 36 holes on Saturday, but competition was suspended due to darkness.

The two-day, 54-hole event is being contested on the The Ridges par 72, 7,147-yard layout. Wake Forest was one of six teams still on the course when play was halted Saturday evening. After shooting a five-over 293 as a team in the first round, the Demon Deacons were two-under with just a few holes remaining in the second round. Clemson and Southern Cal, which both finished the second round, are currently tied with WFU for third place with at three-over par.

Florida leads the field at six-under par after completing both rounds. TCU is second at even with a few second-round holes remaining. Wake Forest is the defending team champion at this event.

Deacon senior Bill Haas is currently the field leader at nine-under par through 15 holes of the second round. Haas was the first-round leader with a five-under 67, and was four-under on his second 18 when darkness set in. Tennessee??s John Scott Rattan is three strokes back in second place, and also needs to play three more second-round holes.

Sophomore Kyle Reifers is tied for 27th after carding 74 in the morning and two-over through 15 in the second round. In their collegiate debut, a pair of Deacon freshmen are tied for 44th. Sean Moore and Chris Wilcox both have a five-over 149. Moore, who was able to finish the second round, turned in scores of 76-73 on Saturday, while Wilcox carded a 76 in the opening round and was one-over through 15 on the second 18.

WFU sophomore Alex Yates is 94th at 22-over par (84-82). Junior Doug Manchester, competing as an individual, is currently tied for 84th. Manchester shot a 76 in the morning and is 11-over through 15 holes in the second round.

Teams will wrap up the second round on Sunday morning before playing the final 18. Haas, who tied for first last year at this event, will look to defend his individual title.
